Increase security? What more security could this country have?? We have wiretapping, hidden cameras, police that arrest you for sneezing. The only way this country could be more secure is to have a legion of  Jedi Knights from Star Wars standing in front of the White House!!

Theres nothing the terrorists would like to see more than their enemies taking precautious measures to protect themselves. It shows are weak spot-we actually have hearts.

Provided access to the targets remains for citizens and provided security is non-offensive and respectful.

Much like the World Trade Center, these buildings are symbols of our freedom as a nation and must be protected at all costs.

Definetely. They already have sharpshooters on the White House with anit-plane missiles. These targets are the terrorists top targets- they must be defended.

In theory, this is a wonderful idea, but no amount of security in the world would have stopped two planes from crashing into the world trade center. We need preventative measures to keep them from ever reaching our country.

From my perspective, these are collective symbols of American democracy and freedom of expression in this country of ours. From another person's perspective, they may represent tyranny, arrogance, greedy capitalism, etc. That's fine. Our nation is great precisely because we have freedom of expression within the law allowed us. But these symbols are legitimate targets of violence by terrorists who would want to violate this nation even further, especially since 9/11. If tragedies such as 9/11 and in Oklahoma City can happen, who's to say defacing or even destroying these symbols of prominence won't occur also? For American morale, it is right and proper to defend and protect these symbols of peace and prosperity.

Increase security, kill, shoot, bomb, destroy, block, punch...what is this, a boxing match? Can we think of NOTHING else? It's going to get very seriously out of hand if we do some of these suggested things. What EXACTLY do we want? 300 pound+ guards crawling around the statue of liberty like ants? We already have a ton of security. It's not like the country is completely blind, just some of the people who work the airline security are. And DUBYA does not need any more security than he already has! There is this thing called the SECRET SERVICE! I think the entire Secret Service is just a little bit stronger than Osama bin Laden? Wouldn't you all agree? Could we please just have an investigation and THEN decide what to do? Or do we all WANT to live in a completely paranoid world?

As long as the terrorist threat is evident, it would be prudent policy to increase security at high-profile U.S. targets. We must realize that terrorists have more than one strategy for implementing their will. They may leave a truck bomb at any high-profile site. They may sneak into the country nuclear, biological or chemical weapons aboard a freighter. Increasing security throughout population centers in the country would be prudent. In light of the fact that the White House and the Capitol were targets as well, it would make sense to make sure security is extra tight in these areas. It would be a national travesty to see these monuments burn before our eyes at the hands of some hateful terrorists.

I don't even know why this is on here. Even if there was more security there that wouldn't do anything to stop a plane. All that would do is be more potential lives lost. This should say "Increase security at high-profile U.S. airports." I think this is the second-worst item on this list only behind "Increase security at sporting events, concerts, etc". If anyone sees how this will help please feel free to leave me a personal message. My heart goes out to the victims, their families, and the rescuers. NEVER LOSE HOPE!!!
