No doubt, one of THE biggest events of 2003, and maybe even this decade. The fall of Baghdad, however quick, shifted the geo-political landscape in the Middle East in a very profound way, one which is still playing out even today. The most pressing issue now is that Iran increasingly is playing a role in internal Iraqi politics. It is very possible that by invading Iraq we may have set the stage for another confrontation in the region which will not be as easy to deal with. Iran's security position is decidedly different and more difficult than pre-war Iraq's and just to complicate matters, Iraq is falling into their sphere of influence. Politically and geographically they are a lot bigger, not to mention that the deterrent effect isn't there like it was with Iraq. In short, there's a lot of turbulance and uncertainty, just another day in the Middle Eastern street.
