Federal Do-Not-Call Registry established 1

I despise this law because of the zero tolerance attitude taken by the general public as well as government officials. I will state right from the start that I am biased and prejudiced because this list is causing me to lose my job so I am going to break from my usual courteous format and speak my mind without reservation. The head of telemarketing in modern facilities usually aquires CDs from an outside company. These CDs, sorted by zip code, are supposed to contain the phone numbers of people that we are allowed to call. The CD's are put in a computer and the computer then takes over the dialing so that all our call solicitors have to do is read a script. We do not want to talk with people who do not wish to talk with us. We are looking to sell a product or a service and if you aren't interested, then fine, we have a thousand other numbers we can call. Last year, the company that sends us the CDs must have sent us an old set and without our knowledge or consent we ended up calling about 20 people who were on the do not call list. Had just one person had the decency to tell us that they were on the do not call list we would have flagged the CDs as unusable and sent them back to the company who sold them to us. But no.... everybody wants to be a hero.... everybody wants to be a vigilante....everybody is conviced that all telemarketers are conniving maggots who want only to disturb their dinner. Instead of letting us know that we were calling someone who was on the list, they reported us. Although we were able to disqualify a number of violations because the people had not registered in time we were still hit with over $170 thousand dollars in fines. It was never our intention to call someone on the list and even though the fault lies with the company which sold us the CDs, my boss had to pay the fine and now the company is being sold because it effectively put us out of business. All of our telemarketers were let go immediately including many minority single mothers who were earning 6 dollars an hour more than McDonalds and eventually all solicitation was abandoned leaving us only with limited print advertising. If you are on the do not call list and you get a call from a telemarketer, make them aware that you are on the list. If the calls continue, then report them....... and to those scumbags who reported us instead of informing us, I hope that you self righteous bastards sleep well at night knowing that you caused a legitimate company to go bankrupt through an unintentional error and I hope you choke on the fact that you put a number of lower income people out of work, some in tears as they picked up their final check. You have caused hardship and grief for countless families that you will never meet so in return it is my sincere wish that you and your loved ones be thrown out of work unexpectedly and without just cause and I hope that your children suffer financial catastrophe that is seven times worse than what my boss has suffered. May you burn in hell.

The Federal Do-Not-Call Registry will not effect the world much, but it will make life easier and less annoying.

For me, personally I'd rate it a 5 based on how much I approved of it (more than a 5 if I could), but as an issue it's not as important as others in the list here. I believe in free speech, but I also believe that one's right to free speech ends when it interrupts dinnertime in my home (or any other home activity which I'd like not to be interrupted, for that matter).
