When I was in Germany, people remarked on how odd it was that Mercedes Benz were seen as truly fine cars by Americans. Most Audis, VWs, Mercs and BMWs are as good as most American cars, but much more expensive to own and operate in the USA.

Along with philosophers, tanks, facism, and beer, one must admit that the Germans are quite adept at cars. . .

BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Porsche make the best vehicles in the world hands down. It is no contest.

Having owned a large number of vehicles, from manufacturers all over the world, I can honestly say, that though I tend to buy Fords, the best cars I've owned, are my wifes german vehicles, consisting of two BMW's and a MBZ. For ride, comfort, and an overall feeling of being well built, hands down, nothing built in the US or Japan comes close. I love my Ford trucks, mustangs, and a dozen other American built vehicles, and I've accepted the Japanese ones as of good quality and dependability, nothing tackles the road from a sporting or luxury viewpoint, like the BMW and MBZ.

David Brenner once quipped, "I'll never buy a Volkswagen. I'm afraid that one day it will drive me back to Germany."

Head and shoulders the best auto making country. Only the Japanese come close. People don't realize that the majority of North American production techniques were borrowed from the Germans who understood how to mass produce without sacrificing quality - or having their industries crippled by useless, corrupt unions who support the idea that a man deserves a living despite no education or ambition.

They built the first car, and their quality and image surpass everyone else.

I love their cars and own one currently made in Germany, but I'm getting frustrated with how car manufacturers like BMW have dropped the ball with the car designs. My next car, at this rate, will be an American.

BMW have really lost their way. Why would anyone choose to drive such an ugly range of cars! VAG have become bland and predictable. Porsche Cayenne? Elephant standing in a bucket! more like...

Mercedes and BMW are fine cars (but Mercedes is sort of stodgy in appearance). Lots of technology built in and, I believe, generally pretty reliable. Maintenance and repairs can be pricey. Volkswagen just ain't what it used to be - reliability not the greatest (I know from bitter experience). Same goes for its sister company, Audi.

Volkswagens are not very good cars. They look like a pretty apealing car, but once you own one you know better. They always break down, and when they do they need very costly repairs. And when they need repairs you can't go to a local garage and have it done because VW won't sell thier tech. to read their computers. So you have to take it to their dealership and get a costly diagnostic check done before you can have it repaired. Not to mention they suck gas like it is going out of style.

The Germans make outstanding cars. They are unlikely to break down, and they run really well, having good power without being too bulky. Most German cars are pretty attractive, maybe a little boxy, but they have been improving the look of their cars for quite some time now. Volkswagens are probably the lowest-quality German cars, and they are pretty superb in their own right. Besides, most Volkswagens are manufactured in Mexico, so some quality control has probably been sacrificed.

Beautiful cars. BMW and Mercedes are both perfect. Volkwagen is a good company, but is very expensive for thier products.
