I'm reminded of the phrase The fact that no one understands you does not make you an artist.

I prefer it worded as, 'What an artist dies with me!' I was going to suggest this one if it wasn't on the list---I like it because it rings so ironic. Of all the things the infamous Nero is remembered for today by the general public (although how many generally remember him at all?) artist probably appears not at all. It reveals a lot of how he saw himself, which leads to understanding from others, something he could really use.
