The Hampton on Post Oak is the facility that this rating is about. I have a family member there that has Alzheimers' and suffered a stroke about 1 month ago. She has been at this facility for almost 2 weeks. At first, it couldn't have been better (Overlooking the front desk that is a picture of filth). I guess that I was trying to get used to this idea, since I always promised her that this wouldn't happen.
She has been in the "Health Care Unit". She was assigned a room in the back, about the size of a closet. There was barely enough room for company, one chair, and no privacy. You could see the room across the hall, from the chair, but, not from her bed and everything that was going on in that room.
She fell on Saturday Night, after trying to get a nurse/aide in to help find her remote control.........she was waiting for them to come to help. She then called the desk to let them know that she had to urinate......she waited around 20-30 minutes, then she fell. She was under her wheelchair........."I asked her how she fell, she won't tell me............." is the answer that I got from the nurse/aide.....she then took an attitude like I was telling her a story about what led up to this fall........I was on the phone, long distance, while she waited for nursing to help her. Mom told me later that the staff was disrespectful, and treated her like a child.
Sunday: It took the staff more than 30 minutes to answer her nursing callbell...........one time, the medaide came in a practically told her that taking her to the bathroom wasn't her job, she'd tell the desk, then, she turned off moms' light and left. My husband went up to the desk 30 minutes later, and informed them that mom has been waiting to go to the bathroom for 1 hour, and she is supposed to be bladder training while she is at this facility. It took another 5 minutes. The medaide NEVER told the nursing desk.2 staffmembers finally came and took care of the problem....
Monday: Mom fell again..........she doesn't remember how, but, she fell. Luckily, she has a caregiver that goes in for a few hours a day............she has a bruise on her back. We took a picture of the bruise for further reference.
Tuesday is when I found out about this fall........I called regarding this, and talked to the appropriate person about moving her to another room, one that can be seen from the hall. I was told there is a room that they are putting new carpet in and painting............it would be tomorrow, Wednesday, before she could move in. She moved in on Thursday, and guess what? Her bathroom door is locked, the carpet was shampooed, not new, and the room has an odor to it...............It is now Saturday, and no phone. I called the facility all day Friday, everyother hour, and talked to the right people again, and the work order was put in before 5PM on Friday.......I was told that it was put in the day that she moved, and that her phone would be working Friday morning. There are other things that have seen, regarding other residents at this facility, but, I feel that what has happened with my mom is indicative of the whole picture at this time.
Hopefully, she will go to her home, and she will have her own caregivers soon.
I feel that if one places their parent or family member in ANYfacility, their should be a caregiver with that person. That seems to be when the staff gives the resident the attention that the resident deserves. This has been an eye opener to me, and I hope that others can learn from our experiences.
