 | Redoedo (41) 03/24/2004 | Rating Malcolm X is quite difficult for me because even in death he remains a largely controversial figure. At certain points in his life he promoted peaceful and nonviolent approaches to gaining equal rights, but at other times, he seemed too much like a genuine racist who sought total separation of the races (ironically, the integration of the races seemed to be a huge part of what the Civil Rights movement was all about). However, at the end of his life, Malcolm X seemed to effectively make amends by undergoing a spiritual evolution and promoting peaceful and nonviolent solutions to the issue of equal rights for all Americans.
