French Resistance (1940-1944). 4

Despite having more factions than, well, French government, the Maquis were a heroic and sometimes effective force (albeit not as effective as Hollywood would have you believe). Bon chance, mes amis.

This was the only war that the French were confident they would win.

One of the few times in history the French didn't use their little white surrender flag.

Yes, people, the French ARE capable of bravery and valor. The German armies moved into France with little difficulty, easily sidestepping the Maginot Line, so there was little the people could do except try to foil the Germans' plans with subterfuge and espionage. And they carried it out through most of the war, fighting not only the Nazis but a plethora of French collaborators as well. Good job, Messieurs.
