Begs the question as to how much these people were terrorized, and how much they were agitated by Russian provocateurs. Nonetheless, this was as vicious and brutal a conflict as has happened in the last two centuries, with horrid atrocities committed by both sides. For much of the mutiny, the Pandys were a match for the British, and it wasn't until hard, tough soldiers like Havelock, Grant and Campbell got stuck in that the mutiny was doomed.
