Like a lot of people I have a soft spot for this, because Ghandhi (and others) gamble worked. However it should be pointed out that it worked against a more or less civilized oppressor. Had he tried it against the Nazi's or Stalin's Soviets, or Mao's Red Guard, he and his people would have been slaughtered. Having some understanding of Ghandhi's intelligence, I'm sure he took the tenor of his foe into consideration.
