Who would have thought that such a fine little pop album could inspire such ire? I hadn't heard this album in at least a decade and then somebody played it at the lake this weekend. I was charmed all over again. It isn't important, or edgy, or innovative, but it makes no such pretense. It was the work of an expert craftsman and has stood the test of time as my recent late evening weekend listen on the deck attests.

The sad fact for Beatles fans is that they performed well as a TEAM. Without Lennon to bring back to earth the nearly-pathologically optimistic McCartney, you get, well....Wings. [Without McCartney's music-composition skill, Lennon would have produced, well, the forgettable albums he produced (I guess with the exception of the song "Imagine"). ] Oddly, often cited as the most musically (playing and song-writing) gifted Beatle was George Harrison, who rarely got a chance to display his talent in either (guitar riffs and song-writing).

Ringo Starr wrote "Back Off, Boogaloo," ostensibly referring to McCartney's interfering manner, rose-colored-glasses way of looking at life. So even on the "team" he was regarded as a nuisance. A $250M nuisance...

[OOPS! I should have read MDStewart's post before I posted mine...pretty much the same.]

Sittin' down? This will make u stop listening to the x-mas station at work...Mccartney at his finest: SIMPLY HAVING A WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS TIME. THE MOON IS UP< BLAH BLAH BLAH, AND THAT"S ENOUGH>SIMPLY HAVING...Oh, retire yesteryear. You do suck & U look like a cheap, shanty chimney sweep, to boot. AND THAT'S ENOUGH!!! Shut your piehole,k?

This album sucks. Paul MacCartney sucks. I remember I actually bought MacCartney's Red Rose Speedway album when it came out in 1973. I think I listened to it once and was so unimpressed that it ended up sitting in my album collection for 10 years unplayed before it was actually nailed to a tree in a friend's back yard and used for a pellet gun target. Paul is a wimp, he hasn't released a decent rock tune since "Hi, Hi, Hi" back in 1970 and shows no signs of doing anything else in the future than filling the world with "Silly Love Songs". Not only that, I understand that he is pretty much a total a-hole to boot. This album sounds like a halfhearted attempt at soft rock by a Holiday Inn lounge group and if MacCartney hadn't been involved in it, it would have ended up in the cutout bins within a month. Look, deal with it people, this album and pretty much everything MacCartney has ever done is a load of bollocks for people that really don't want to rock out anyway. It's predominantly background music for watercress sandwiches with the crusts cut off and tea parties. Count me out!

Paul was the lighter, happier side of the Lennon / McCartney songwriting duo, while John was the grittier, brasher side. When you mixed the two, you got magic. But when these two seperated, you got soft, fluffy songs from McCartney, and angry songs from Lennon. Band on the Run is good McCartney, that little gypsie band running here and there and playing little gigs and just as happy as can be. It's a good album, and it contains some of Paul's better songs, but it can't quite shed itself of that bubble gum sound.

Paul was between band members when he made this album...it was him, Linda, and ole faithful at the time, Denny Laine....incredible job considering his band ran out before they recorded it.

"Band With The Runs" is more like it. Virtually everything McCartney did after The Beatles sucked, fit only for 11 year old girls and grandmothers to listen to. No edge, no balls. Frivolous song concepts and dopey lyrics. Total commercial crap aimed at those of undiscerning taste and absent sophistication. "I thought the major was a flatus."

Almost certainly the best McCartney/ Wings album of the 70's, besides the 3 hits, "1985" and "Let Me Roll It To You" are superb. There's a couple of duds, but this is generally impressive.

Paul McCartney's only second to Cliff Richard as the least rock n roll. Maybe it's something to do with his startled hamster face. More likely it's due to limp efforts like this. Even when he tries to rock out on tracks like Jet it has all the energy of a gnat's f*rt.

Best P.M. album of all time- could have been a Beatle album- songs flow through. Helen Wheels, Jet, along with BONR are classics.

This truly a classic CD if you don't like it you, have not listened to it. The CD also has a very interesting story behind it. One of Paul's best and a must get for any Paul McCartney fans.

This is a perfect pop album. I am glad that it was so well recieved, but I think some of the good press was payback for the terrible way Paul was treated at the beginning of his solo career. RAM and McCARTNEY are classic albums that were killed by borrish, short-sighted critics. Today those albums have many admirers. Anyone who thinks BOTR is the peak of Macca's solo career should listen to those albums. Ram, in particular, is much more adventurous and interesting than BOTR. BOTR is, however, perfect Wings pop. The title track is, I think, one of the best ever recorded, and will be remembered alongside the greatest McCartney tunes. Jet is also classic, and 1985 and Let me Roll it are essential b-sides.

Released in 1973, Band On The Run remains Paul McCartney's best work after the demise of the Beatles. This full-length effort contains two of McCartney/Wing's most popular singles, namely Band On The Run and Jet, and also includes the minor hit Helen Wheels as well as Wing's best song that does not get any airplay, Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five. This latter track is difficult to find and is not on any of McCartney's compilations as far as I am aware.

I don't know why many people don't like Wings. I thought that Paul McCarney had a great solo career, especially with Wings. Band on the Run is definitely Wings' greatest album.
