 | irishgit (156) 01/20/2004 | Like abichara I caught Dean's concession speech after the Iowa caucus. Speaking as an old political hack, this kind of speech was the kind of thing people like me always feared the boss would make. Tired, angry and stressed politicians are always a nightmare for their staff. Not a good start for the Dean campaign, which has already stumbled a few times.

 | abichara (66) 01/20/2004 | Ok, I already rated Howard Dean on the regular list on this site, but some new developments warrant a new comment. Last night I saw his concession speech after his 20 point loss in the Iowa Caucus. The guy completely lost it. I think he was definitely venting some anger here. What was that noise he made after he named all the states he was going to conquer? YAAAAAAAAAEEEEEH!!! Now that's presidential! I can't wait to see what he'll say to the French when they piss him off! I think the media really inflated this guy up, making him the man to beat. There's this herd mentality in the media; there's never one person going after a scoop, it's fifty reporters getting at one story. Since last August these guys have been making something out of nothing. Governor Dean M.D. was simply making more noise than John Kerry and the rest of the group. Howard Dean didn't do much of anything as Governor of Vermont. Considering that his state is relatively affluent and gets more than it's fair share of tax money, I would say it's easy to govern there. They can certainly afford health care for all children under 18 because his state can afford to pay for it. Try that in a big state like California and Florida; which has huge budgets and a more sparse tax base. He can't apply his Vermont model nationwide. His toughest decision was the civil unions decision, but he was undecided to the last minute there. Indeed, he hyperventilated when he found out he was to become Governor of Vermont. Now that gives me a lot of faith that he'll be a good leader! In short, the guy's not fit to be President. For the past few days, he's been losing his cool in front of the media and it all culminated last night in of all things his concession speech. I don't know if he has the stuff to be President. I believe that the Democrats are realizing that this guy is as they say in Texas All hat and no cattle. I think that the Democrats are finally beginning to wise up after this vaudeville act; maybe they'll nominate someone with credibility. But somehow it wouldn't surprise me if they nominated this banshee for president.

 | Anonymous (1) 01/16/2004 | Howard Dean is liberal, and he opposed the War on Iraq, but can he really beat George W. Bush? Since John F. Kennedy, there has not been another Democratic president elected who has not been from the south. This should not be a factor, but it is. Remember what happened to Humphrey, McGovern, and Dukakis?

 | pabob (2) 01/15/2004 | I credit him for being outspoken on his stance in Iraq. Many Americans like that kind of bravado. Problem with me is I don't know where he stands on so many other issues. He flip-flops on his stances so often that I'm confused. Like Clinton, he'll say anything to any crowd to win approval. You have to do more than criticize Pres. Bush about everything to win my confidence. All in all, he sounds completely too liberal to me.
