 | Spike65 (16) 08/17/2008 | I believe this was Chaplin's first venture into sound movies. It is very well done and a fine parody of the Axis powers and their leaders. In light of the true extent of the horror of what the Nazi's did it seems a bit too light-hearted. For that reason I must give it only four stars.

 | Djahuti (57) 01/18/2005 | One of Chaplains most poignant films. It makes you laugh,it makes you cry and it gives one much to think about.Hitler was FURIOUS at Chaplain for lampooning him in this wonderful movie.Bravo! The speech he makes at the end is one of the most powerful speeches on War in history.

 | Cosmo Renfro (2) 03/12/2004 | Not only was Chaplin amazingly brave to make and release this movie, but it was also very very funny. He managed to make a movie mocking one of the most dangerous leaders in the world and also managed to make it hilarious that even Hitler allowed it to be seen in Germany. I recomend this movie to anyone who is either into history or into classic laughtastic comedy.

 | Underspin (25) 08/13/2003 | See it alone for the closing speech Chaplin gives at the end of the film, where he rails against fascism and totalitarianism.

 | JimmyInAtlanta (0) 06/23/2003 | I really respect Chaplin for having the presence of mind and heart to make this movie. It wasn't necessarily brave - Hollywood was very anti-Nazi at the time. It was very compassionate of him to think of the plight of the Jews and to presume what their fate would be. He nailed Adenoid/Adolf, and Mussollini, and the whole dirty group. The movie speaks for itself - one of the greatest examples of tragi-comedy.

 | actuator (0) 03/05/2003 | One of my all-time favorites. Outstanding comedy, featuring Chaplin at his best, as both the self-effacing barber and the comically tyrannical dictator.

 | Waz22 (0) 12/07/2001 | Charlie Chaplin is one of the funniest people have ever seen in my life. And in THE GREAT DICTATOR, he lives up to that reputation. This is one good movie, I must tell you.
