The majority attack Christian viewpoints, therefore, Christian viewpoints are wrong.

This is very common on RIA particularly in areas of religion, politics and celebrities. I hate to refer to a basic tenet, but consider this: "The majority supports capital punishment. Therefore capital punishment is good."

This is another one I used to run into when I was foolish enough to think I would find something enlightening on the music pages here. I cannot tell you how many morons I've seen who say things like, A loT uv PPL bot 50 Cent's lasst albm, so he GOTS ta be an awsum muzishun. Fo' shizzle! Absolute retardation. And if enough people believe in fairies, or God, then they, too, will exist.

This appears to be a popular logic crutch on RIA and makes me feel a bit uneasy when I get so many helfuls (I can't help but worry that there is another Guide lurking somewhere as well). As Irishgit stated, this arguement is popular with stereotypes, particularly in regards to ethnicity and religion. See some of the Islam comments made on this site. As a result of this, I've somehow made it my pet project to rebuke any moron who makes blanket statements about Islam here, even though I often feel like a salmon swimming upstream.

Well put magellan. This is really common here, particularly on subjects like Bush, Clinton, Islam etc. It always makes me feel like I'm on the right track when a comment of mine draws a dozen or more unhelpfuls.

Yeah, well, most people believed the world was flat at one time . . . sadly, some still do . . .

A common fault of both politicians and peer-pressuring schoolkids. Happens in online posts as well. Examples: All real Americans agree with the new law because we all want freedom for our children. and Millions of cool kids steal rental shoes from the bowling alley, so therefore it really isn't a crime.

Great list, Enkidu. The Argumentum ad Populum is a pet peeve of mine. It's the intellectual equivalent of a lynch mob. Its appeal is clearly in how easy it is - just spit out any sentiment that you know a large number of people agree with (see any comment by user Dean2004), and rely on the popularity of the sentiment to pass as logic.
