I'm pretty sure I can read, but maybe I'm wrong, doesn't this list say athletes who disgraced their sport? I fail to see how him allegedly killing his wife has anything at all to do with football. Did nothing at all to the game to disgrace it, disgraced himself, but not the sport.

Ok, stand by your unhelpful buttons. I view OJ as a train-wreck of a human being, a probable double murderer and wife beater. I note, however, that these actions not only occurred off the field but well after his career. Do I want to have dinner with him or do I want him to date my daughter? Absolutely not. Would I want him if I needed a running back who could get me five yards at a pop? Absolutely yes. He utterly disgraced himself, but he did nothing to dishonor his sport. OJ the man and OJ Number 32 are separate entities. One is garbage, and the other is properly regarded as one of the best backs ever to carry a ball.

If he dishonored the NFL he did the same to the Naked Gun series and Hertz Rental commercials.

Although the courts may say he is innocent, I don't know. No one knows his real heart except for him and God. But nether the less, although he hasn't done anything wrong football wise and has not done anything illegal in football, it is still a third wheel on NRL (or whatever). It is not something that the football would want as a reputation. Put it this way, would you were a stranger, would you think of RIA as being a good site if there was a known murderer on it. You may think it is good because the murderer doesn't run the site, but it is still not a good thing to have on RIA's reputation. RIA would have a much better reputation if people didn't know that. Although football isn't disgraced, it is still not a good reputation to have someone like that playing football. Put it this way, I don't know if I would support the team he was on. But if he is truly innocent, then people are just being unfair and should be open minded. But overall, I can't really say he has directly dishonoured his sport.

I don't think it really hurt football to much. OJ was considered more of a bad actor by the time he...oh yeah, he was found innocent... Anyway, while some lines were drawn, Simpson was long retired and not even a commentator at the time he was on trial.

Sometimes the Pro Football Hall of Fame lucks out, sometimes they don't. OJ earned his induction on the field, between the lines, no question. He has done nothing to necessitate removal from the Hall (nor from the USC/HOF, nor from the Buffalo Bills Wall of Fame) nor to forfeit his Heisman Trophy. Is it the fans' fault that upwards of 85% of them believe he murdered his wife? In the most gory, grizzly fashion? Of the wounds (in graphic detail) that he allegedly inflicted on this woman, whom he loved ? That they saw the low-speed white Bronco car chase throughout LA? Of the DNA match? All those cynical fans should be able to set that aside and honor the guy for his football accomplishments, huh? Sure, we can all compartmentalize it, can't we?

How he managed to convince the jury he didn't do it still eludes me....

Orenthal James Simpson (OJ) can get nothing less than a 5. He is one of the greatest athletes ever. For those of you with the feeling that he disgraced his sports, how can you say that when the man was found innocent? You may have your opinions an validity of that verdict but as it was, he was found by a jury of his peers not guilty. What if the man did not commit the crime? You people are on here doing your best to ruin his name which has alreayd been tarnished by an accusation he was found innocent of. I feel this is a bunch of bull and the man is one of my heroes, he was always an upstanding citizen, a great father, and a great man as well as a fantastic football player, this accusations as well as people like yourselves on here bad mouthing him has just led a spiral effect for a mans life which is now in ruins.

Violence is a major aspect of football; these guys beat each other up for a living. Many people think of football players almost as animals anyway - tough maniacs with no brains aka Warren Sapp. I think if OJ were a child molestor then it would have been a different story. In a world of the Lewis's in Baltimore, I don't think crimes really seem to dishonor the sport. No one gets too surpised.
