I'll go three on his behaviour around his team and team-mates. The guy is close to being the poster-child for arrogant, over-rated jerk athletes. I don't think the rape charge dishonored his sport, although it smacked his personal image around.

Whereas Allen Iverson lived in one of the worst housing projects in all of Virginia, Kobe lived a priveleged life in the affluent Main Line section of Philadelphia and often traveled abroad (His dad was also an NBA player). While the Colorado incident is a huge strike against him, the big downcheck on Kobe is the way he ran Shaq and Phillip out of town and declared the Lakers his team. Have you checked the Lakers lately. They are behind the Clippers in the standings.

I never thought of him as an athlete who dishonored his sport. Kobe cheated on his wife once, but at least he was man enough to admit it to the nation. ... But there are a lot of NBA players that probably have done worse than him. Wilt Chamberlain once screwed over 20,000 women; Damon Stoudamire was caught with drugs more than once; Charles Barkley spit at a kid and threw a guy off a window. They did worse than Kobe Bryant.

Well,here's one exception where I think Mike Tyson got a bad rap.I'm not an NBA fan in general-and there was a show(I think 20-20 or Prime Time live),where an author of a book on the high percentage of NBA players with felony rap sheets(I wish I could think of his name without checking google);anyways,I believe Kobe was guilty-beyond adultery. And I just don't think he would've settled out of court if he wasn't.

Many NBA players sleep with prostitutes because they are much less likely to open their mouths, which is arguably worse than sleeping with a hotel clerk. However, these guys aren't accused of dishonoring their sport. Kobe is only looked at differently because he got caught.
