Leo Durocher (Baseball) 1

Durocher was suspended for one season for association with known gamblers. He was never even accused of betting on baseball or anything else, though he was known to follow horse racing. Plus, he was also only suspended after heavy pressure on the commissioner from Dodgers owner Walter O'Malley. It was a situation that should have been taken care of in house, but O'Malley didn't want to come off as the bad guy. Yes, there was some controversy over his relationship with a married woman, but that was barely a blip on the radar screen when it came to effecting the game. I think it's also worth mentioning that Durocher was significant in erasing baseball's color line when he let it be known he would not tolerate dissent among players when Jackie Robinson joined the club. That doesn't seem like much now, but it was a bold stand for the time. I disagree that what Durocher did was worse than what Rose did, and I think it's obvious Rose had a far greater negative effect on the game itself.
