Imagine Saddam and his past acts of terror and mistreatment towards his neighbouring countries with all the weapons that WE provided him with! How frightening. Now let's put on our combat caps and go kill that monster we've once moulded and abetted.

Yeah, Saddam was so bad that he was even frightened of himself. Paranoid maybe, especially towards the end, but I doubt he ever had a crisis of conscious.
