I don't know that this was meant to be lighthearted. Johnson was far from the first president to have trouble with this wicked meglomaniacal little troll.

LBJ was quite the old charmer wasn't he? Somewhat earthy way of putting it but, with that little miscreant Hoover, it seems he had a very good point.

A wise move on the part of Johnson. J. Edgar Hoover had the goods on everyone, including Johnson himself. To make an enemy out of him would mean political trouble.
