If i had to choose between watching repeats of Leave it to Beaver and current soaps. I will pick the Beaver.of course this is not what life is like most sit coms from those days and even now are not. I just cannot bring myself to even try and "buy" what situations you commonly see in soaps. the good and evil twin. the 20 year old who shows up in town looking for the mother who gave him/her up for adoption at birth. the character who died but the body was never found who shows up years later{ probably an actor who wanted to leave to get movie roles and could not} every show has someone who is kidnapped. etc. at least Beaver is easy to watch and not have to keep up with. I am not claiming to be a democrat or republican.

Soaps give women a form of emotional pornography and (in minor forms) sexual release. . .Beaver is a show from a bygone era with little or no lessons. Let the past be the past.

[Update & Clarification: one person wrote to tell me that my friend's criticism of Leave It to Beaver had nothing to do with his being a liberal. In most cases, that would be a good point. But with this particular friend, he was specifically using the old TV program as an example of misleading conservative thinking, as opposed to the more enlightened liberal, who lives in the real world. That's the only reason I pointed out his liberalism, and his incongruous love of soap operas.....] I was glad to see this one on here! I have a liberal friend who fits this description exactly. He has mocked Leave It To Beaver and any other old show that portrays a healthy family, and says they are all unrealistic & thus not worth watching. Yet, this same guy FEEDS on those ludicrous soap operas and gets so emotionally wrought that he will even shout angry words at the actors on the screen.

Solenoid DH, I suggest your friend might be a little soft in the head, and being liberal has nothing to do with it. I am a Democrat and I love Leave it to Beaver and I don't have time for soaps because I work full-time. Even if I were home during the day I wouldn't watch soaps because they are an idiotic waste of time.

I hate both. (Except for soap operas that are spanish speaking. Mexican soap operas rule!)

Leave it to Beaver was never in touch with reality.

I like Leave it to Beaver and wish more shows would be like it considering all of the sleaze that is polluting all of today's airwaves. On the other hand, I hate soapoperas because they are boring, repeatitive (in the bad way) and overflowing with objectionable content and bad role models.
