07/02/2008 | Strange. If an alcoholic happens to become disabled due to a separate incident why wouldn't he/she get benefits? Do you want to put all your vices on trial for a litmus test?

07/02/2008 | If alcoholism is considered a disease, physical or psychological, then he/she should dserve social security benefits. Problem is, the solution should not stop there. Government should institute and fund a mandatory detox treatment for alcoholics. If alcoholism is considered a willing and responsible choice, and social security disability benefits negated, then we are condemning them and punishing them for their choice, hence, let them suffer and die. Is that the right thing to do?
Some scientists claim that alcoholics have a genetic propensity to consume alcohol. That makes alcoholism a treatable "disease" and by genetically engineer a gene that would destroy or render useless the gene that cause alcoholism, the problem would be taken care of. But there are financial and political agendas that fight to keep things as they are, for obvious reasons.

08/27/2005 | Don't forget anyone who puts a needle in their arm and injects themselves with illegal drugs and lives in a box because their own decision to use the drugs stops them from keeping a job!

12/12/2004 | Once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic, KeepTrying. Actually, Bush is a dry drunk. If he had actually participated in a program like AA, he might have attained the priceless gift of humility, and would not have such an inflated opinion of himself.
