I had to have boots for it, so I went to the Marines and they issued me TWO PAIRS. I've been pulling ever since, and so far its working, as I am 26 years old with NO DEBT and a decent income, plus my eduction is PAID FOR! (numbah sounds like a republican)

My parents were dirt poor in college, but they worked like hell and now my father owns part of a company traded on the American Stock Exchange. When you do pull yourself up and get to work, miracles happen. There are always people willing to help if you look hard enough.

I guess I might not be a republican, I've never said this, although I've provided shoes for a few less fortunate than myself. Does that make me an honorary democrat? Oh, that's right, the shoes would have to be bought with government money.

I don't think I've ever heard someone use this phrase. But I'd understand why a Republican might say it.

No. A person's footwear situation is his/her own business. I'm too busy keeping my world in tact to dictate harsh advice to people who have more problems than I do. Too many people think they have all the answers down pat and carved in stone. Walk in their footsteps then do something contructive or bug off.

If I had a nickel for every time I've heard this from the mouth of a conservative, I might actually be able to pay off my student loans and pull myself up by my bootstraps. LOL

Almost every person I ever known who lives in comfort, with no fear of going broke, not being able to pay doctors' bills or their children's college tuition believe that their happy situation is purely the result of their own hard work, self-sacrifice and discipline. Each of them is a perfect example of what's called the unexamined life.

This has always been my main gripe with extreme capitalists. However George Bush is providing a lot of help for poorer families at the moment to be fair on the Republicans.
