Some of the best mussels and lobsters in the universe hang out around there, it can't be that bad! More bagpipes and fiddling culture per square inch than most people can enjoy...

Unique cultural place or almost unique anyway. The large number of Scots Highlanders is the unusual part. Although the Highland settlement in the Atlantic Provinces is Canada's gain, it reads a massive indictment against the bloody rapacious Hanoverian Dynasty that impoverished those people by destroying their society and livings and casting them on the sea to land where they would.

I'm from there and having lived in other provinces, U.S., Australia & Europe the past decade, it's high on my list of favourite places. Aside from Charlottetown & Summerside, big box retailing has barely touched it. It's small and the people are friendly. Don't go expecting a wordly, sophisticated society - but for genuine salt-of-the-earth folks, they're hard to beat. Best way to get to know them is at the fishing wharf, the potato warehouse, or the local barber shop. Wonderful rural scenery sometimes makes you think you've stepped into a Norman Rockwell piece; it's hard to beat, particularly in June and early July. Lack of large industry, aside from several french fry processing plants, gives it a clean image too. Still very dependent on the small family farm and independent fishermen. Winter is hibernating period for some, for others a time for ice-fishing, snowmobiling and enjoying the countryside without tourists underfoot. Mid July-mid August is the big tourist period, lots of festivals, good weather, beaches are filled, some hotels are as expensive as Florida or the Carolinas... 140,000 year-round residents, 1.5 million tourists in July/August/September

A quaint and curious place, green and verdant and rather bucolic. The inhabitants rival those of Maine for taciturnity. Horrible restaurants.

P.E.I is small enough that you can drive around the whole island in basicly one day. I've been pretty much everywhere including Charlottetown, Summerside, and other places. I would say my favorite place is Cavendish.

VERY clean! All you see is green in the summer. TONS to do if you're a tourist and into tourist attractions. Love the beaches. I love vacationing there.

Really cool people and nice beaches, but that is really all there is. It's kind of neat to see all of the Japanese tourists flocking to see Green Gables (Anne of Green Gables is inexplicably HUGE in Japan). The entire island shuts down during the winter though. Half the businesses close and everyone but the residents leave. It's the most densely populated province only because it's not large enough to have open spaces; it's predominantly rural anyway. Wonderful place for roughly two fifths of the year, so it gets 2 out of 5.
