SRV had a very short career. If it wasn't for drugs or air travel I wonder how music would've turned out?

To me Steive Ray Vaughan is one of the best guitarist in tthe world. To me eddy van halen for him is nothing.
thedrunkenderb 12/16/2008
One of the best Blues guitarists ever.
Kalistix 12/02/2008
There have been better composers on the guitar, Hendrix, Keith, J. Mascis, and many others...but no-one was able to captivate you, make you feel what he was feeling like Stevie could live. He didn't play the blues through this fingers and Lenny...it burst out of him uncontrolably, and he could be brutaly violet and then switch to sweet longing in momentslike no-one Ive ever heard. His version of Little Wing is a Masterpiece.
gasman477 11/30/2008
You can't beat this guys sound. He was the real deal.

It doesn't get any better than this. It seems like the great ones are always taken too soon.
Spike65 08/22/2008
One of the best of the modern bluesmen. Too bad he died young.
The Masked Cracka 08/19/2008

My Dad's all-time fave!!
Budc9512om 07/28/2008
I have always thought that while he has his moments, he was an average guitarist.

This man could play and perform like a madman. If he hadn't died on my dad's birthday, I'd have loved to have seen him play live.

I live in a world where Stevie Ray Vaughan is dead and Barry Manilow is still alive. Why? Why? The pain. . .
ILikePie 06/22/2008
A blues legend up there with Hendrix in terms of ability (but maybe not quite in terms of songwriting), and a tragic loss to the guitarring community, especially considering he was making some of the best music of his career and had cleaned his act up.
kinger75002 06/20/2008
Technically, speaking the best guitarist during the 80's. His Live performance had such great energy you felt that you were listening to the greatest guitar player in the world.
cathka 06/17/2008
Simply the best! That's all there is to say.
dgooch 06/06/2008
The greatest in my view. Struck down before his time. Love and miss you Stevie.
myspace-55076233 06/01/2008
he was a great guitarist
Automatt 05/25/2008
Definitely on the list of the best. When I heard his helicopter went down on the car radio, I had to pull over for a while.
Snakepit22 03/12/2008
The talent was there, but I can't take in the tone. Also, I'm not sure if I'd notice the difference between any of his songs if I wasn't REALLY paying attention, which would be hard to do because i find his music excruciatingly boring. Maybe its just that I'm not a southern bluesman at heart. He could play till the cows came home. That is for sure, but they probably would want to come home to the samee tired licks.
bulldog83 02/28/2008
One of my favorite musicians. Gives me chills when I hear his playing. Awesom player and was incredibly talented. RIP Stevie!
SC64 12/18/2007
Lucky enough to have seen him play in 1984! Still plays in my head.
ROCKTRAIN69 12/14/2007
A great legend. His death was just terrible, he had cleaned up his life, and things were going good for him. Then he was killed, damn shame.
nwpanther 11/30/2007
Brings chills just watching him play.
georges11 10/06/2007
Pure raw talent. When he played his guitar it was like magic. Saw him live at the Palo Solari in Santa Fe. You could tell he just loved making that guitar sing. Hollywood should make a movie aqbout him much like La Bamba. His music was truly original. You can tell when you listen to his songs and compare him with others. Try it his sound is very distinct and recognizable. Stevie was taken from us much too early. He had a lot of magic left to share.
rayrose 09/05/2007
he could do things that only hendrix could do but i don't really like his songs.
makerholler 08/26/2007
Slickest guitaris out there.
csc99 08/18/2007
With out a dout the greatest guitarist ever so mush power feel & aggression no one could live with stevie on stage he was amazing. He also had a great voice but what was great about him was that he always played from the heart and never forgot who his influences were. RIP SRV second to none.
peterpink 08/18/2007
Wonderful performer with real feel and grace.
Fintan 08/12/2007
Best live guitarist ever, and the best blues guitarist ever. Tragically cut short, SRV had amazing chops, tone, soul and versality, dabbling in jazz, funk and shred, besides blues. The coolest guitar god ever, and better than Hendrix, Van Halen, Page etc.
greggorangee 06/23/2007
Brilliant guitarist, proves that drugs DONT ruin your ability
hunyrider 03/24/2007
Sorry guys. He did use drugs. This is a fact.
jtwhit 03/19/2007
The definitive blues player! Check out the DVD, Live At The El Macambo...unreal. His rendition of Third Stone From The Sun will send shivers down your spine. Stevie has secured his place in rock history as one of the very best.
cevaking 03/15/2007
Half of you need to get your facts straight, stevie died in a helicopter crash, he was free of drugs and alcohol 3-4 years before his tragic death losers. I'll agree his studio songs may not seem that impressive (although they are to me), but watch him play live and thats where his greatness is, everything he played was from his heart and soul, nothing he played can be found in books or tabled, the man was just a legend and all round great guy - put it this way you don't have a statue put of yourself in the middle of austin, texas if you haven't done something right.
Just watch his live performance of texas flood from the el mocambo or his version of voodoo chile (slight return) and even the harshest crtitics will have to take their hat of to him.
doobiesNhof 03/13/2007
One of the best ever. Contrary to what some reviewers here think, SRV was clean meaning drug and alchohol free at the end of his life. Please, get your facts straight. He was also a fantastic acoustic guitar player. Ranks right up there with Hendrix, Page and Clapton. Another life tragically cut short in his prime.
curtisstambay 03/11/2007
Sure he was a dope fiend, but still a great guitarist.
grazieb 03/03/2007
I would like to say that I have only just heard of SRV. I heard Voodoo Child on the local rock station, and I was totally blown away, I thought to myself 'even Hendrix would have been impressed by this cover'. I said to a work colleague this guy is amazing, the next big thing. He said I was 100% correct, but too late, and that SRV had died 17 years ago. I have since bought his albums and have seen the DVD's and now I am absolutely sure he is up there with the best. He is on a level with Clapton, Hendrix, Gilmour & Hammett. Sad to say, here in the UK, SRV is a virtually unknown artist. There are people who can play the guitar, and there are those who understand it. Vaughan understood. SRV had it all, a talented guitarist, a showman, an inspiration! I wonder how many people picked up a guitar after hearing Stevie. It almost makes me want to stop playing all together! Vaughan deserves to be in the top 5. Legend
