Beck is another good one. Anytime you play with Clapton you've done something right!

He influenced everyone from Jimi Hendrix to Jimmy Page to Joe Perry to Slash. He has been called the best ever by Clapton, Brian May, Joe Perry, Steve Lukather, & Jimmy Page. His technique is the equal of the best jazz/fusion guitarists and he plays with a fire few can match. One of the top 3 guitarists of all time!

His playing can be molten hot when required or ultra expressive. His playing "sings" like an amazing soul artist and as Eric Clapton said "When Jeff's on, nobody can touch him." Fortunately, he's on quite often :-)
Spike65 08/22/2008
Truth.
Doctor of Madness 08/22/2008
Because he is less of a self-promoter that the other guitar heroes of that time, some seem to demean his ability. All he did was play and his work speaks for itself. I find it to be sad that people need to pick favorites. Just listen and enjoy!
irishgit 08/21/2008
Brilliant work here, from a guy who doesn't get as much credit as he deserves. A hugely influential and important musician.
Paul375 08/04/2008
Solid but will always be overshadowed by Clapton and Page.
JBB 07/16/2008
The greatest without a doubt. He does it all.
ANDREW57 07/11/2008
good music, but not the best guitarist

When you hear "HENDRIX" you think of the amphetamine of innovative guitar playing. Straight up 'ROCK 'N' ROLL'
Will292 06/22/2008
Beck is a god

Stevie Ray Vaughn beat him up bad during a live performance back in 1990. Yikes.
jay111 06/16/2008
one of the greatest!!
OceanSoul 05/06/2008
Beck was an innovator, stylistically and technically. Few probed the function of a whammy bar as thoroughly as he did. He increased his speed by eschewing a conventional pick, instead using his thumb; the technique was employed by later players such as Toy Caldwell. Live, Beck plays like a natural, almost effortlessly working intriguing music out of his guitar.

Jeff Beck is the most important guitarist from the 60's (Besides Pete Towshend). My favorite song from him is Plynth (Water Down the Drain), by The Jeff Beck Group. I will attribute my change in my review and rating to dansan3, because after reading his reviews I listened to some of Jeff Beck's music and he was right to a certain extent.
dansan3 06/12/2007
Don't ask us. Just ask the guitar Gods like Van Halen, Satriani, Clapton, Santana, Page, and Hendrix "Who is the best guitar player?" They all mentioned JEFF BECK.

The master
JeetKuneDo 03/12/2007
The best of the 60s rock guitarists. Still not in the same league as guitar players from other forms of music at the time though. Rock was the very bottom at the time. Which really makes it ironic that the rock guitarists of the day are so lauded. (Being worshipped by the enormous baby boom generation has its benefits.)

Makes Jimmy Page look amateur.

His solo career has been spotty overall, but his groundbreaking work with The Yardbirds is deservedly given classic status in my view. The original Jeff Beck Group with Rod Stewart, Ron Wood, and a fine if obscure drummer named Mickey Waller was great and more influential than they're given credit for- for instance, they set the template for Led Zeppelin, and their first album was mostly great. Beck had a lot of range: he played blues, folk, classical guitar, psychedelia, proto-metal, jazz- the guy was capable at any style it seemed, and not a jack of all trades, master of few either. Highly innovative and influential.
petemomp 02/28/2007
The absolute best ever. His ability to craft every single note into a piece of work is what makes him so. No one else can come close to what he can do. He consistently makes my jaw fall open and the hair on my neck stand up. If you don't know why he is so good listen to Goodbye Pork Pie Hat from Wired. The opening few bars should do.
watergrass 01/15/2007
Actually pretty tasteful, just close your eyes and listen, he knows how to make a stratocaster sing beautifully.
keven101 01/09/2007
jeff becks diversity was second to only clapton , however i feel he has a little broader range. just look at blow by blow and wired. his impact on the music industry is constant and deserving
tarkt1961 01/07/2007
I saw Jeff Beck with The James Cotton Blues Band and Johnny Winter in Atlanta @ the old Atlanta Civic Center. Beck played the talk box on Superstition. Unbelievable!!!! Does any body know what year that was? 1977, 1978 or 1979 I think?
nteyoumetgo632 90 01/03/2007
one of the greatest guitar player ever. should be in the top 5.
maxwellsimms 12/31/2006
A true hero. Thank you for not selling out.
lightfinger200 0 12/08/2006
of the three greats of his era.Beck was twice as good as Hendrix and Clapton together. He continues to shine and make great music
watumbi 12/03/2006
Superior musician.
rockerrreds 11/13/2006
My favorite of the Yardbirds' three lead guitarists.
haveacigar 08/15/2006
The unsung hero of guitar. So unknown and not reverred, he is a genius, and one of the greatest guitar players in the history of music. Greatest Song- Cause We've Ended As Lovers
pithor 07/12/2006
I've seen them all mentioned. Beck on Strat is tops.
bubb 07/03/2006
Listen to Jeff Beck's 'Freeway Jam', 'People Get Ready', 'Led Boots', & 'Blue Wind', for starters.
Drummond 05/31/2006
I will always love his cameo in the film Blow Up, in 1966, where he smashes his guitar as the Yardbirds were playing Stroll On to an audience staring at them an not even tapping a so much as a toe. Always wondered if Pete Townsend got the guitar breaking idea from the film.
leftfinger 05/31/2006
I'll take this guy over Clapton, Page and even Hendrix. Check out "Blow by Blow".
Gromit 04/09/2006
Very OVERRATED and DATED player! He's good, but not deserving of being put on a pedestal.
tossa 03/25/2006
Much, much better than Page
Rockon64 03/17/2006
Amazing! Although he doesn't seem to be able to get along with anyone, musically. "Blow by Blow" made me want to buy a Les Paul and wail. I wish he were more commercially accessable, because people who think Clapton is god would be shocked to hear how good Beck is.
doobiesNhof 03/15/2006
Definitely one of the top 10 of all time.
MariusQelDroma 12/28/2005
Why is this clown on the list? Can't play to save his hide, can't write anything resembling good music, and surely can't sing worth a sh**.
kimteacher 12/28/2005
Quite talented.
