When you hear "HENDRIX" you think of the amphetamine of innovative guitar playing. Straight up 'ROCK 'N' ROLL'

Stevie Ray Vaughn beat him up bad during a live performance back in 1990. Yikes.

Beck was an innovator, stylistically and technically. Few probed the function of a whammy bar as thoroughly as he did. He increased his speed by eschewing a conventional pick, instead using his thumb; the technique was employed by later players such as Toy Caldwell. Live, Beck plays like a natural, almost effortlessly working intriguing music out of his guitar.

Jeff Beck is the most important guitarist from the 60's (Besides Pete Towshend). My favorite song from him is Plynth (Water Down the Drain), by The Jeff Beck Group. I will attribute my change in my review and rating to dansan3, because after reading his reviews I listened to some of Jeff Beck's music and he was right to a certain extent.

Don't ask us. Just ask the guitar Gods like Van Halen, Satriani, Clapton, Santana, Page, and Hendrix "Who is the best guitar player?" They all mentioned JEFF BECK.

The best of the 60s rock guitarists. Still not in the same league as guitar players from other forms of music at the time though. Rock was the very bottom at the time. Which really makes it ironic that the rock guitarists of the day are so lauded. (Being worshipped by the enormous baby boom generation has its benefits.)

His solo career has been spotty overall, but his groundbreaking work with The Yardbirds is deservedly given classic status in my view. The original Jeff Beck Group with Rod Stewart, Ron Wood, and a fine if obscure drummer named Mickey Waller was great and more influential than they're given credit for- for instance, they set the template for Led Zeppelin, and their first album was mostly great. Beck had a lot of range: he played blues, folk, classical guitar, psychedelia, proto-metal, jazz- the guy was capable at any style it seemed, and not a jack of all trades, master of few either. Highly innovative and influential.

The absolute best ever. His ability to craft every single note into a piece of work is what makes him so. No one else can come close to what he can do. He consistently makes my jaw fall open and the hair on my neck stand up. If you don't know why he is so good listen to Goodbye Pork Pie Hat from Wired. The opening few bars should do.

I saw Jeff Beck with The James Cotton Blues Band and Johnny Winter in Atlanta @ the old Atlanta Civic Center. Beck played the talk box on Superstition. Unbelievable!!!! Does any body know what year that was? 1977, 1978 or 1979 I think?

I will always love his cameo in the film Blow Up, in 1966, where he smashes his guitar as the Yardbirds were playing Stroll On to an audience staring at them an not even tapping a so much as a toe.

Always wondered if Pete Townsend got the guitar breaking idea from the film.

Amazing! Although he doesn't seem to be able to get along with anyone, musically. "Blow by Blow" made me want to buy a Les Paul and wail. I wish he were more commercially accessable, because people who think Clapton is god would be shocked to hear how good Beck is.

His stinging guitar work with the late, great Yardbirds was enough to put him near the top of the list. The 'Truth' album is a true classic and his fusion work is also legendary. As for teaching Jimmy Page to play, well that is simply balderdash! They were comtemporaries and each had a lot to add in his own right. 'Nuff said. There's plenty of room for both of them. Thanks to the British blues scene for giving us Clapton, Beck, Page, Peter Green, Mick Taylor, Alvin Lee.....Can't we all just get along?

For the guy who is often credited with starting the Heavy Metal genre with Truth, to 5 years later come out with a stirring record like Blow By Blow suggests that there was an incredibly deep well of creativity. Sadly his career is so full of stops and starts that its hard to assess his place in the big picture.

I had the opportunity to usher at a Jeff Beck concert at the Fox in Atlanta many years ago...I was a big fan, and I still am. I got in for free, but I would have paid the price of a ticket just for the soundcheck that I was privileged to hear that evening. Staggering!

Jeff Beck is amazing! Check out the albums Beck-Ola & Truth these two 60's albums are the birth of Heavy Metal. The 70's saw JB delve into the Jazz/Fusion guitar with classic albums Blow by Blow & Wired Prior to all that Beck was already a Rock Star with the Yardbirds. JB is one of the all time greats!

Incredible! Worthy of 5-stars, but is #3 on my all-time list. #1- Phil Keaggy from Glass Harp. I wish more people knew him. #2- Warren Haynes from Gov't Mule, Allman Bros.

Jeff Beck is way overlooked as a guitarist. Not even using a pick he creates some of the most amazing sounds with a guitar. Probably my favorite single guitarist. I think he is definitely top three or five material.

Not enough have ever recognized Jeff Beck as a great guitarist. He should certainly be rated higher on this list. Not as commercially popular as several of his contemporaries, and not worthy of the best of all time rating, his cult of followers will argue until dawn about his superiority. And don't you dare yawn!
