Aerosmith as a band is bad. Perry as the lead player is serviceable. He has developed some technique over the years but studio musicians were used on some of the 'classic' Aerosmith releases. To his credit his play is distinctive.

How can Joe Perry be so under rated? I think he is defintely a top 10 guitartist. I like Joe Walsh and Keith Richards, but where is the sense with Joe Perry so far behind?
watergrass 01/15/2007
this guy has a very tasteful sound, but i think he lacks feel when playing live. Joe you got to move around more.
kuukluxz 01/15/2007
He's good but not great, they used Run DMC to save their career. Aerosmith was dead until the remake of 'Walk This Way'.

Dont be a sitting duck, you could do better you lame duck. Eddie would make you look like a fool.

I can not believe that he is so far down on the list. He is like Keith Richards, but a talented soloist. Much better then the over rated Jimi Hendrix or Eric Clapton.

Joe Perry has been and still is one of the greatest guitarists there ever was. What an incredible musician....

Very tasteful.

Like U2 and the Who, he's one component of the greater whole. He's a solid player and Walk This Way is the definitive riff for Aerosmith.

The thing is, aerosmith arent about megga-fast riffs and tap and slide, but what joe perry does is un-slatable, not only does he write aweosme music but by god, he plays it too
jrbusc 08/24/2005
not very good too pop
markee 08/21/2005

No shredder by any means but Aerosmith, Perry and Brad have shown what GREAT guitar is.
colochohammett 01/18/2005
Joe Perry is an icon for me. He probably isn't as well rated as others but hey, he is a good composer.... thumbs up for creativity, Aerosmith has definitely got some of the best rock ballads i've ever heard

I agree with Saronix on this. Joe Perry had some things that were not bad, but he has never stepped up and proven himself like the true greats.
Saronix 11/27/2004
He was no guitar hero, he came up with some cool stuff. But nothing extraodinary
Djahuti 11/27/2004
Joe Perry never gets the credit he deserves. One of the living greats of Rock n Roll...co-writer of HUGE Aerosmith Anthems,he plays a mean boogie on his axe.
sfalconer 11/02/2004
Joe Perry is truely a great guitarist, he adds to the sound and does not have to dominate it. One of the best guitarists I Have ever heard live.

I'm sure he's an awesome dude in real life, real down-to-earth and cool, but his music does nothing for me. He built a career on imitating Keith Richards and nowadays he basically phones in his contributions to the increasingly embarrassing Aerosmith (who seem to do little else besides bad movie soundracks). The Stones are even older than these guys and are still cooler than them by a country mile.

I've seen Joe Perry live several times, and he is filled with such great energy. He is a very good player. However, he's just not up there with the greats. (Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, John Petrucci, etc.)
