Right now people are going out and buying duck tape to protect themselves against biological attacks during this conflict with Iraq. As President Bush justifies this war as part of the War on Terror, which stems from 9/11, the fear of biological warfare is definitely running rampant.

I work in a place where we handle mail constantly, opening it up and sorting contents for our customers. When the Anthrax scare hit, it was so annoying. They handed out gloves and surgical masks (like that'd help anything--anthrax spores are far smaller than the holes in the gloves and masks, it'd just go right through. False sense of security much?). It took me about 2 hours to get fed up with it and throw away my "protection"--if I were going to get sick, it'd happen regardless of gloves or masks, and if I had at all felt endangered, I could go to the hospitol.

I'm not scared by anthrax at all. When did the anthrax scare end, like a year ago? Time to move on to more important issues. How many people did it kill? 5?

Anthrax is a very big concern. America is a very selfish nation in addition to be the richest. Anthrax can be distributed in places we can't even see. It has already killed a few people. There are things in the making right now that we don't even know about. Open your eyes. A single deadly lethal virus can literally wipe out most of America that we don't have a cure for!

The threat of widespread Anthrax contamination is very minimal. I think that people were getting excessively panicked about this. The people who spread that anthrax around probably were domestic. They targeted high profile people in politics and in the media with the thinking that this would get lot of airtime in the media; thus causing concern among Americans. These wackos did this to destabilize the country some more during our hour of crisis. People were very uneduated about the nature of the anthrax virus. Now people are, the reasoning for this is because everyone is not going into a blind panick about this anymore. Anthrax is very difficult to get and is actually very curable with antibiotics. Panick and choas brings out the worst in people and the anthrax scare only showed us that some more.

They haven’t caught this/these wacko(s) yet so of course I fear it to a point. But I still have the sneaking suspicion that it’s coming from one of our home grown nuts rather than the folks who brought us the horrors of 9/11.

I must be honest. Honesty is more important than jumping on the bandwagon. And I must therefore say that I have no fears whatsoever about being contaminated with anthrax. I'm not exposed to very much mail, al-Qaida would have no reason to send me any, and I'm starting to get a little irked with this country's paranoia. For God's sake, one of my friends got sent home from school with a severe headache about a month and a half ago, and some of the people in my classes were FREAKING OUT because they thought she had anthrax. It ended up resulting in an eight-man brawl. So don't you all see what this is causing? Please! While I must say that ellajedlicka21 is correct about the lack of education, I am still not very afraid of it. I live for at least part of the year in a quiet litte suburb in Georgia, and no one really would have any reason to taget me. Anthrax infection is to some extent selective; AIDS is not. Take care, everyone!

Everyone is terrified over anthrax, but most don't even know what the disease is or its effects or symptoms. It is like AIDS in the '80s; people are ignorant about it and have absolutely no education on it. This has caused quite an uprising of emotions from all people because they hear about anthrax on the news coming in mail, and it really is troubling to me because they're not completely familiar with the disease at all.

It does scare me a little. 5 people have died already and one of the people apparently got it from cross-contamination.

I'm more scared of getting run over by a bus or getting attacked by a shark. Maybe I'm foolish, but Anthrax is just not high on my list of worries right now.
