 | oscargamblesfro (82) 10/04/2006 | The closing track on side 1 of "Are You Experienced?" which just may be the single most thrilling and revolutionary debut album of all time, and in any case was among the greatest at a time when I feel it was the greatest for debut albums in general- around this time, you had the stunning debuts of The Doors, Velvet Underground, Pink Floyd, Traffic, Moby Grape, etc. '67 was a great year for first albums. This track had not only Hendrix's customary brilliant guitar, it was also a commentary or indictment of social problems such as the state of race relations and personal freedoms and issues like Vietnam. Kind of a despairing track, and not to get too cliched or old crustity on ya- but, I'm sorry, but generally speaking the ability of the guitarist in rock/ pop today is just laughably absurd compared to the Hendrixes, Becks, Pages, Claptons, Peter Greens, or even the lesser lights of that era. And no amount of 128,000 bit mastering and so called technological advances can cover that up. Thus endeth the rant...
