Actually this one makes sense! The US won't have to worry anymore about getting oil from despots that we have to bribe. It will solve our dependence problem instantly. You see, there's an ulterior motive for everything. Of course, there's probably no oil in Mars, so we'd better start finding other sources of energy pronto. That should be a bigger priority than going to Mars.
