It's definitely not the most important consequence of 9/11.

The question isn't most troubling consequences of the war in Iraq, it is about 9/11.

This war, along with the administrations other fiscal skullduggery,is bankrupting our Nation. They will tell you that the economy is "fine",well, for THEM it is.Halliburton is raking in millions (if not billions) from the uncontested contracts alone!Defense Contractors and other parasites are making a bundle off of the death and destruction. If you are about to tell me that Gas Prices have recently gone down,I will remind you that November Elections are just around the corner!Pay Attention!

The war on terrorism opens the door to the doctrine of continual warfare. Contrary to popular notions that were established after the 2nd World War, war doesn't necessarily build up the economy. The prospects of terrorist strikes on the homeland is very destabilizing. We have to keep in mind that the economy began lifting out of the depression during the late-1930's only because re-mobilization began creating a high demand for labor. Today you don't see that kind of pressure in the economy. As opposed, there's a lot of uncertainty out there. We don't need big manned armies for this kind of warfare, so the impact on the economy will be limited to selected sectors. It doesn't trickle down to the average American by a longshot. A more benign presence in world affairs would reduce tensions that have created the negative economic climate in the first place.

9/11 definately had a very negative effect on the economy which we have not yet fully recovered from. I concur that President Bush's first tax cut actually helped the economy (before 9/11), but when you're turning record surpluses into record deficits in just three years (higher deficits lead to higher interest rates), then you've got a problem.

Definetely. Onbviously none of you watched the DOW fall over 700 points the day the market reopened. The war in Iraq will help the economy, however. It might even go back to 10,000 points for the DOW. Bush's tax cuts made the economy grow, 9-11 messed everything up.

Is this really as much of a consequence of 9-11 as it is a consequence of certain people's economic policies? That is not, before you start hollering at me, directed only at Dubya and friends. Also, I don't know too many people whjo actually suffered physical or emotinal or financial pain from this. I'm sorry, but I'm really not bothered by this...like we've never come up with this problem before? Take care, everyone!

Our recession was well on its way before the attacks, but it definitely became significantly worse since then. I also don't see it as being a long term impedement on the American economical situation.

The economy sucked before 9/11 and it is still sucking. Historically, wars have had a positive impact on the economies of the winning side - I don't see any reason why this one should be any different.
