Turkish food are heavenly. I come from that part of the world and let me tell you that this food are deffinately worth a try. Dolma(grape leaves stuffed with meat) is a national meal, as well as shish kebab(charbroiled peaces of lamb), lahmacun(flat bread with peaces of spicy veggies and lamb), and world famous baklava(pastry made with filo dough, nuts, and honey). If you won't like it after tasting eat, let me know, I'll argue with you until one of us will drop unconcious and it's probably going to be you.

If you like Greek food, you like Turkish food as they are nearly the same, spare the pork issue. There are many foods common to both countries and it's funny to hear Greeks and Turks argue endlessly about which country first made baklava. Turkey is the birthplace of shish kebab and it is served in restaurants all over Turkey and is always tasty. However, I'd go for some of the more classics of Turkish cusine like Imam Bayildi (trans. the Imam fainted) which is grilled eggplant stuffed with vegetables and simmered in olive oil. When done right it is heavenly. Dolmas, which are vegetables stuffed with meats, rice and seasonisng are served everywhere, especially in homes. Common vegetables for stuffing are peppers, tomatoes and grape leaves. Another favorite dish of mine is lamacun, or Turkish pizza. This is a thin flat bread topped with highly spiced lamb and finely diced vegetables. I love it so much I make it frequently here at home. Turkish cooks are also expert pastry makers. Baklava is always a good bet as is anything made of Katayfi dough. Sigara Boregi is a pastry made with a sharp Feta-like cheese rolled in phyllo dough and fried. Fattening but addictive. If you can find a good Turkish restaurant close by, give it a try. It's damn good food.
