People will remember the NBA becoming a joke on his watch.

UPDATE: Alright, so I feel a need to elaborate on this point. Has anyone heard what came of the ref thing? Me neither. Games were fixed and this idiot expected us to just come on back and watch. The words I'd like to use to describe that expectation violate site rules, so I'll have to settle for stating that my boycott of the NBA continues and it looks like a great idea to have done so since I saved myself alot of aggrivation this year on a product that is still FIXED. Enjoy your Lakers-Celtics Final if they haven't already put that together. I don't know because I haven't been keeping track all that well...

The reefs in the nba are so UNFAIR they are the only thing that made the La Lakers win against the Utah Jazz on Wednesday, May 14th in LA it was rediculous!!! And also Coby Briant wouldnt get a foul even if he was holding his arms around a player on the other team and pulling them down to the ground (he would be the one shooting the free throws) DAVID STERN YOU NEED TO SAVE THE NBA AND START MAKEING IT FAIR INSTEAD OF LETTING YOUR REEFS CALL THE GAMES!!!!!!!

David Stern is singlehandedly responsible for transforming the NBA from a fringe, unstable sports league to a financially successful international marketing powerhouse.

Update: Deserves huge credit for bringing the NBA All Star game to New Orleans. It was a risky move - New Orleans is still a dangerous and unstable place. But Stern committed to it,

How can you possibly complain about the laker s shooting half as many fouls as the opposition (granted I was incredibly surprised by it). They shoot twice as many free throws as the competition in almost 80% of the games. If it wasn't for Scheister jewbag fuck david stern and his refs yall would have been lucky to even win one. If you dont remember, it was the referees who got you to finals. Nobody can catch take 2 steps and should a fade away jumpall in under half a second, with out a little help from his friends. mostly the guy controlling the clock and the whistles, they didnt even start the clock until after Fisher shot it. Dead ball re-inbound, that is an easy call

David Stern is totally incompetent, he sucks up to his officials too much. When players do a little thing wrong, he gets on their case, In order for an official to be punished, they have to do something really bad. He also goes and hires a gambler to be an official (see Tim Donaghy). He is partly responsible for hiring Donaghy and is not able to admit it. What about those suspensions between Phoenix and San Antonio, it clearly shows he had some influence on who he wanted to win it all. As well, he made that zero-tolerance rule, what was up with that, it just made things WORSE. The dress code, how does that determine one's character. He has also never addressed the fact about players refusing to report to teams when they are traded.

But worst of all, he has been blind to the fact that referee Steve Javie has held many grudges against players and coaches and he even calls Steve Javie one of the best officials in the league. What is up with that?

David Stern is an incompetent nincompoop and should resign immediately.

Although he obviously has a lot of passion for what he does and seems like a very intelligent person, where the most important aspects of intelligence are concerned (i.e., common sense, understanding human behavior), he's a moron. Since he took over in the mid '80s, there have been times of prosperity, but for the most part he's clamped down to much (like other commissioners in the league) on freedom of speech and, consequently, the NBA is the "No Fun League" namesake of the NFL. It would be nice to have a sports commissioner that had the actual ability to relate to their own athletes as well as to fans. You know, someone with an iota of common sense that walked a line between disciplinarian and "player's-commissioner" without being too much on either side. Someone that was simply well-rounded in their personality. There aren't, unfortunately, any commissioners that are well-rounded anymore. Like Stern, other commissioners have the intelligence and personalities of business men; they're people who would make hell of CEOs but other are absolutely incompetent at being a commissioner of a major sport.

I have to give him 2 stars. He used to be a good commissioner, but now he's more concerned with making NBA cares commercials instead of fixing the problems in the NBA. Ratings go down every year, and this dude is shoving the NBA cares crap down our throats.

Stern does not watch officials, there is truly favoritism on the floors when some teams and players are charged with fouls when others are not.

I am a single mom first of all, and then a teacher in LAUSD who gets paid once a month, and yet for xmas I purchase for the 1st time 4 tix for my red shirt @ the u minn crookston and 2 of his friends, tix for the New Years day game vs. The Utah Jazz tomorrow and you suspensed KOBE! Dude think of your LA fans! This punishement is what we high school coaches do. Suspend him from away games and fine him if you see fit. You are shitting on LA with this choice. I spent $1800 dollars as a teacher in LA county as a xmas gift to my only basketball playing son and you do this! You should be ashamed! I wish I could stage a protest in time and your Lakers plays to no one on New Years Day. Every ticket purchased should be honored for another regular season game or playoff game. I guess if you are rich you forget about how you got there? Carol L. Holton a loving mom, hs coach and pissed off recipient of 1st time $1800.00 seats!

I'm sure a dress code will stop the negative images of your league. What a dope this guy is. You can't change someone's character by throwing an expensive suit on him.

Professional athletes are rappers/hip-hoppers, rappers/hip-hoppers are criminals, and criminals are professional athletes...it is one big cycle. What can be done about this cancer to society? Any ideas?

He reminds me of the guys who deal Three Card Monte on cardboard boxes on the sidewalk. You know they're cheating but you can never quite catch them.

Give him credit for raking in the cash, but also for transforming the NBA players from heros who set examples for our kids to overpaid, crude hooligans who attack fans physically.

He certainly knows how to market a league around its players. He brought a struggling league out of the ashes. David Stern is a white man getting rich off the poor and uneducated. Lets also not forget this is a man who doesn't mind if boys are drafted out of high school and are not mentally prepared for the real world. He is good at deflecting all the negative PR many of the players get into (ie Jason Richardson beating up his girlfriend, Shaq assault charges, Kidd abuse charges, Kemp drug problems, Vin Baker drug problems, Jordan gambling debts). Many of the players are horrible role models and somehow he manages to hide it all behind a curtain. Stern has found that being a tyrant is the best way to run a league. If any player/coach speaks opinion of the league or the officiating, that person is fined or suspended. What really annoyed me was when he cried when the Pistons won the NBA Championship in 03/04. Those were not joyful tears. It wasn't because the Piston won, it was because his little all-star super team, the LA Lakers, blew it and the team was FINISHED. I thought a commissioner isn't supposed to show favoritism or bias.

From the pure business-case aspects of managing his league, I rank Stern as the second best commissioner in Sports History. Only Pete Rozelle is better. Before Stern, NBA basketball of the 1970s was even behind hockey. Championship games were being shown on Late Night tape delay, the ABA was nipping at its heels and its financial affairs were an utter mess. Stern (with help from the likes of Dr. J, Magic, Bird, and MJ) masterminded many of the shrewd business moves that has made basketball a much more marketable product. It's not his fault that the quality of the game has dropped. Blame some of that on Pat Riley and the notion that stinky teams can play tenacious D to hedge against poor talent. Stern saved the NBA. PS - What's the deal with the dude below complaining about the officials working against the Lakers. The common notion is that Stern conspires with the refs to make sure that the Lakers indeed win (Check the ratings when the Lakers are in the hunt). You want proof -- Why is the ref asking the scorer how many fouls Shaq Diesel has in Game 6 against the T-Wolves.

Mr Stern you should be proud of those 3 cock suckers officials who helped Detroit win the 4 game they should get the game ball when a team goes to the foul line for almost 40 free throws and the other team close to 20 there is something wrong those officials must have been kissing detroits asses if there is another game 6 out here in LA and the officials continue to make bad calls i would like to see the fans kick the sh-t out of the officials maybe that will teach them to be more consistant.

He is great if hitting your niche is your business goal. Terrible because Stern created this new niche of pot smoking, mysogonistic, bling-bling thumping, tatoo posin', fundamentaly poor, generation of playas' and fans. They used to brag that NBA had a younger demo than baseball now I am not so sure if Stern wouldn't trade it all in for baseball's image.

You can't ban the use of marijuana, despite info that tells you it's used by 1/2 the league and illegal for anybody else to use. Don't forget the fact that only five teams have won the title since 1990 in the NBA, less than MLB, NFL, or NHL. Top heavy to the biggest of markets.
