A man said to the universe:
"Sir I exist!"
"However," replied the universe,
"The fact has not created in me
A sense of obligation." -Stephen Crane

 | Gentle Jude (23) 10/03/2005 | That is true some of the time. It isn't as true say if you have to expose evil or you have to prevent or punish evilness. This saying only applies if you look for evil, or expect evil to happen or you dwell on the negative all the time. If you think about the devil and there is no need to, then he'll look straight back at you.

 | Tim28277 (0) 06/14/2004 | I fail to see why anyone is attempting to make more of this than what it is. The fact is that is a merely a reflection on life, your life. You wish to see happiness than know that is what you will see in return. However, if you are critical of others be aware of the fact that when you see life in this state that others will look back and see you for who and what you are. Seems evident enough to me.

 | StanUzbeck (14) 04/15/2004 | This is the kind of nonsense that sounds like it might be clever and wise, but really isn't. Is this supposed to be some kind of warning? It reminds me of the stupid things the Sphinx said in the film Mystery Men (When you are able to balance a tack hammer on your head, you can head off your foes with a balanced attack!), except not clever or funny.

 | JonTheMan (27) 01/30/2004 | I also personally love An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. Remember although it is sometimes understandable to hate that which you see as evil, hatred often brings you closer to that evil.
