They always say SUPERGROUP when talking about prog rock bands (elp). So if they are SUPER they needa SUPER space, in a large room, in the hall of fame!

If there's a reason they should be in, one is that they were the 1st band to incorporate quadrophonic sound into their live show. There is nothing dated about their Pictures At An Exhibition or Brain Salad Surgery albums. Their concerts were a spectacle within themselves. Keith Emerson is one of the great keyboard showmen (you can hear him sabatoging his organ on Tarkus) and Carl Palmer paved the way for drum synthesizers on Tocotta (and they were able to capture this technique live). Then, of course, there's Greg Lake, one of the smoothest baritone voices as well as versatile enough to switch from bass to guitar, since there was nobody to cover for him. Let me answer the critics and naysayers who don't think there should be a place in the Hall of Fame for this trio. Egocentric? Well, if they weren't, their shows might've been dull. Lame? The only lame thing is that they're still not in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. Pretentious? It seems like you have to be in progressive rock sometimes."Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends"

Surely! The only other prog bands that deserve it more are The Moody Blues and King Crimson. Carl Palmer is the best drummer in rock, Keith Emerson the best keyboard player. I can't stop laughing when I hear entertainers called "pretentious." If you want unpretentious then watch The Newshour on PBS.

Every person who has ever played a synthesizer has been influenced by Keith Emerson. Along with Greg Lake and Carl Palmer, this trio created some of the most amazingly full music of the 70s. The only reason this group isn't in the HoF and some others are is the obvious bias against prog rock. Let's see.... disco or prog rock? Hmmmm, guess good old Jan likes disco more.

Ouch. Tough critics. However, in both NYC and Los Angeles, 95.5 used the synth tag line from ELP's Karn Evil 9 First Impression to sell their radio station, for years...so, SOMEbody liked them. Egotistical? yeah: deservedly so. Lame? uh, nuh uh. Pretentious? Hey: why not? All the other rock boys are, on down to today.

Like ELP or hate them, if you claim to have regard for music history you must put ELP in the Hall of Fame eventually. n Pioneering use of the synthesizer by Keith Emerson who worked closely with Robert Moog and in April of 2000 were inducted into the Smithsonian . Keith Emerson influenced a wave of future keyboard players and programmers who would later use such technology in genres like New Wave and Disco. Carl Palmer who of Rocks most talented drummers and arguably one of the first to use synthesizer percussion in 1973. n Like it or not ELP were one of the forerunners of progressive rock. Their album side suite Tarkus pre-dated similar Epics of the genre. Genesis-Suppers Ready, Yes-Close to the Edge, Jethro Tull Thick as a Brick. And in the process was a Top 10 LP in the US. Charted # 1 in the UK. Without a hit single! ---ELP from 70-77 constantly topped polls In the Melody Maker, Sounds , Circus and even Playboy magazines readers polls. Held #1 slot for Keyboards, Drummer, Producer, Band, Album, Arranger, Live Act. ELPs first seven albums charted #18, 9, 10, 5, 11, 4, 12, These chart numbers from a band that did not produce hit singles. 1974 ELP were the 4th concert draw behind Led Zep, The Who and the Stones. Estimated album sales exceed 50 million. So ELP was commercial successful. ELPs legacy : They introduced and educated more young people to the classics then any gaggle of music teachers imaginable. So you dont have to like them. Just weight the statistics for the Hall of Fame.

Maybe by the year 2525, but there are others in this genre that are more deserving. Someone once called them Egotistical, Lame & Pretensious. I always thought "Lucky Man" was one of the great songs of the 70's, certainly one of the first to use a Moog, Andy.

About 10 prog rock bands deserve it before ELP and frankly none of those 10 deserve it either.

Ladies & Gentleman... The Symfo from this band is just like a beautiful picture at an exhibition, a unique sound, they deserve for that a place in The Hall. Ps... Welcome Back My Friends To The Show That Never Ends, Emerson Lake & Palmer (what a live album).
