Of course they deserve to be in the R&R Hall of Fame, but as a band? Maybe when they first started out, Heart was actually a band with the Wilson sisters fronting it but ever since they started turning out the hits, Heart has been Ann and Nancy and their backup band. I mean, can anyone name any of the other musicians in Heart (past or present), offhand?

These turds go on about the way the male dominated music industry kept them down, yet they continue to prosper with their "unique" brand of "hard" rock. "We made it on talent", they'll tell you. Ugh, it sickens me. They're just crappy enough to be in the hall of fame.

Nothing more than a trumped-up bar band with the gimmick of featuring a sister act up front.  Nancy Wilson is a fine guitar player, but she diesn't rate with Liz Phair, Lita Ford or PJ Harvey.  Ann could sing fairly well, but she's far, far from the greatest female rock and roll singer.  They had three noteworthy songs in their canon, which isn't an astounding number, as many bands have more than that on a single album.  Listen to their 70s music and you'll find it sounds very dated.  Their later work is decidedly ho-hum.  Heart, like Fleetwood Mac, was instantly passe and obsolete when punk rock came along, so the band had a useful shelf life of about three years.

Like Led Zeppelin after sex change operations in the 70's, then had a sales slump before making a comeback in the mid 80's with generic, hard rock- connect the dots, MTV type hits...Nothing to get excited about, umm.... musically speaking.

the only thing to separate this lot from the rest of the cack that was 70s/80s AOR was that they were fronted by two babes. listen to this stuff now and it has dated so badly.

In their prime they  looked better in tight pants and high heeled boots than the Eagles or the Doobie Brothers, but they were really just dependable hit makers who borrowed a riff from here and a lick from there and sold lots of records and concert tickets.  I suppose there should be some recognition for being the only women to dare to rock between  the era's of Janis Joplin and Chrissie Hynde.  Their stock probably went up a bit by getting a song on Guitar Hero.

They get 3 stars for their 70's stuff, which was a great sound.(Dreamboat Annie a must have) They hit the 80's, though, and it turned to pop fluff which was too bad. Ann Wilson had some pipes and the two sisters harmonized so well together.

You want to talk about some kick ass rockers? Nancy Wilson is the best female guitarist on the planet. Ann Wilson has a voice second to none. Together they both kicked down the door to the Rock and Roll Boys club and served notice. The can play it all. Beautiful ballads (Dreamboat Annie, Dog & Butterfly); Hard driving rock and roll (Barracuda), the most amazing cover of Led Zeppelin's Rock & Roll; and everything in between. How the Pretenders got in before them is beyond me since Chrissy Hynes isn't in the same class as either of the Wilson Sisters. If it weren't for Heart, the Pretenders might not be.

Like a lot of bands, Heart dragged down their reputation with some subpar releases late in their career, which caused a lot of people to forget their earlier work. But if the voters for the RRHall were true music historians, they'd be able to look past that and realize Heart's considerable influence on female singers and guitarists. Was Blondie that much better than Heart?

Heart in the day was good but suck now. Why they are on this list is beyond me. They are and never were Hard Rock or heavy metal. I have seen them twice, the first show was great but the last one totally sucked and I have had a hard time listening to them since. The Wilson sister need to hang it up.

The rock incarnation of Heart was formed in Seattle with the intention of creating a female lead Led Zeppelin. While their noble attempt was admirable (but probably impossible), the band did succeed in creating their own niche as serious female hard rock musicians. Heart was able to combine driving harder tracks along with acoustic numbers that resulted in some of the better full-length releases of the late 1970's. Nowhere was this more evident than on their best (and debut) 1976 effort Dreamboat Annie. With songs like Magic Man and Crazy On You, the male dominated rock industry could no longer remark how cute it was to see women try to play harder rock and roll, as this was serious stuff coming from female songwriters and performers (though Anne and Nancy Wilson were the only two females in the group). On the softer side the Wilson sisters were able to pen excellent acoustic numbers (eg the title track) as balance, and some could be considered on par with similar songs by their m... Read more

Just like Foreigner, Heart was very real and genuine. One of the few women rock bands that could literally rock a stadium full of people. They were so ahead of their time it wasn't even funny.

Heart is one of the best, hard-ass, kick ass bands from their era! I love listening to heart when driving on the road, epecially on ski trips. There is nothing better when you pull into a spot at Whistler, jump out of the truck, have all the doors open and having HEART just cranked on the pair of 12's!!! My personal favourite is Crazy on You, followed by Baracuda! I love the looks it gets you. ROCK ON and Take it Light!

Ann Wilson voice is simply amazing, and her sister Nancy skillfully complements her on this group's very fine catalog. Vocals are a distinctive combination of rock and soul that can really soar. Blows today's wannabe ho's out of the water. "Crazy on You", "Alone" and "Stranded" are faves.

A great band! The hard truth is that with the problems that Ann had with wieght and self esteem they could not hold it together. They simply were playing in an era where you could not pass of an obese chick as a front person! I saw them in there heyday and there is no dougbt these girls are the real thing. Musicianship, writing and no doubt vocals. Im glad to hear that she has lost weight and is making a comeback. Ill be wathing out for Ann & Nancy.

My favorite rock band. Ann Wilson is on par with Aretha Franklin as a vocalist; yes, she is that good. She kicks butt over "Pariah Scary" or these other 90s girls. Her voice is better than Grace Slick's even. The songs are phenomenal at every phase of their career! "There's The Girl" has a great lead from Nancy too. A+++.

I didn't start to get into their music until they released 'All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You' (weird for me, considering the song is about adultery). Old Heart isn't too bad either. Anne Wilson is probably one of the few female singers who can scream her head off, YET IT STILL SOUNDS LIKE MUSIC!
