great first half of career, but devolved into power ballad screechers.

One of the greatest female Rock n' Roll acts of the 1970s-1980s. To this day Anne and Nancy are extremely talented as singers, musicians, and songwriters. I saw them July 29, 2008 at the Ford Amphitheater in Tampa Florida and they still rock over 30 years after their first hit.
Lindy3953 08/15/2009
Nah. Not strong enough for me to let 'em in.
vonr5 08/12/2009
Way, way overdue for induction! The very epitome of Rock and Roll!
Newsodaworld 08/01/2009
...cause ya gotta have Heart...
MacDaNife 07/03/2009
DREAMBOAT ANNIE is a great album, HEART had many, mnay nice moments after that debut.
LoFidelity 05/31/2009
Good but not in quite the same league as others not yet in, great no less
devasic1 04/23/2009
They broke more ground by being females who could hold their own against their male counterparts in the arena of hard rock then being truly groundbreaking musically, but their late 70s hits are fantastic and still hold up. Their 80s and early 90s stuff is dated but showed they could keep up with the times. Plus all the seattle grunge guys love them!

Ann and Nancy Wilson have to be 2 of the hardest rocking women in the business. But if you were to tell them that, they'd probably say "Well, why SHOULDN'T a woman be hard rocking?" Good question. I think a better question would be: How come Heart is not yet in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame? They played hard rock with "Barracuda," "Heartless" and "Magic Man," funky blues with "Straight On," acoustic folk with "Dreamboat Annie/ Crazy On You" and "Dog And Butterfly." They could play Led Zeppelin's "Rock And Roll" in concert and add their own touches, while not straying too much from the original. Give the Wilson sisters their due and a place in the Hall!
GuardianAngel 03/22/2009
not just yet, unfinished business with greater bands still not in yet.
sixtorules 03/13/2009
Too much of a bias against white women from the surprisingly Male-focused Jann Wenner who controls the admissions. Cheesy in the 80s? So were the Moody Blues and they deserve it too. It's the strengths of a great guitarist (who also happens to be a chick) and a great vocalist. I hate Jann Wenner.

Nothing more than a trumped-up bar band with the gimmick of featuring a sister act up front. Nancy Wilson is a fine guitar player, but she diesn't rate with Liz Phair, Lita Ford or PJ Harvey. Ann could sing fairly well, but she's far, far from the greatest female rock and roll singer. They had three noteworthy songs in their canon, which isn't an astounding number, as many bands have more than that on a single album. Listen to their 70s music and you'll find it sounds very dated. Their later work is decidedly ho-hum. Heart, like Fleetwood Mac, was instantly passe and obsolete when punk rock came along, so the band had a useful shelf life of about three years.

Ann Wilson is one of the greatest female singers of all time. Nancy is a very accomplished guitar player in her own right. They also are great song writes, something some bands don't do. They been a big influence to many woman in rock over the years.
FranksWildYear s 11/27/2008
In their prime they looked better in tight pants and high heeled boots than the Eagles or the Doobie Brothers, but they were really just dependable hit makers who borrowed a riff from here and a lick from there and sold lots of records and concert tickets. I suppose there should be some recognition for being the only women to dare to rock between the era's of Janis Joplin and Chrissie Hynde. Their stock probably went up a bit by getting a song on Guitar Hero.
alicecooperroc ks 08/08/2008
Heart have consistently put out great songs and the Wilson sisters are arguably the greatest female performers in the history of rock.
Rock1234 07/12/2008
These ladies can play!
Steamroller3 07/04/2008
Heart has a ton of great, catchy songs and proved girls can rock just as hard as the boys. They belong in the Hall.
Moose74 04/26/2008
The fact that women are generally underepresented in the HOF should be taken into account. But I never felt like anything groundbreaking was happening here. Ann Wilson could definitely sing, but I think Benatar, if we're looking at the period in question, was her equal. Prior to that era, we have Janis Joplin who was clearly a superior belter of the blues. Also, before Heart, there was another band fronted by two women, Joy of Cooking. They never achieved the popularity of Heart (although they received well-deserved critical acclaim), but Terry Garthwaite and Toni Brown were both fine singers, and Garthwaite was an excellent blues singer. Should they have had popular success? Find a copy of their album "Castles" and listen to "Let Love Carry You Along", then answer the previous question. If this sounds more like a vote for Joy of Cooking, so be it. If you vote big for Heart, do the same for J of K.

heart rocks & kicks arse
ILikePie 12/17/2007
You can't really argue with a female guitarist that good... And [I'm ashamed to admit] Crazy on You was one of my favourite songs until Guitar Hero ruined it...
bojanthebest 12/17/2007
one of the best rock bands of the 70s
Winger07 09/20/2007
Best female vocalist ever! Best female guitarist ever! Forced to make "Only" choice and change career directions by record label, they proceeded into mega-stardom only to feel void of their roots. Made very memorable pop hits in 80s. Returned to their roots, have never stopped touring or recording since (in 31 years). Their longevity and talent should speak for themselves. Why is there even a doubt in anyone's mind? Put them in immediately.
Charlie888 08/30/2007
Great band!
TonyLopez 08/12/2007
The best hard rock female singer ever.
Sincopare 07/12/2007
When Barracuda comes on your radio, do you automatically turn it up, all the way through the whole song? The answer is hell YES, and so put 'em in!
WuzUp 03/27/2007
nice band, if they got in, i'd be a happy canuck, but I see heck freezing over 1st. Good luck, cause you gotta have Heart. Dream Boat Annie Dog & Butterfly
snwriter 01/30/2007
Longevity wise and for the fact that they were two women whose music kicked butt--and for Ann's voice--a big yes.
MapleRock 01/27/2007
excellant band, but only once DEEP PURPLE gets in.
watergrass 01/16/2007
They had a lot of kick ass songs like, Barracud, Crazy on you, Magic man, Strong, strong wind, Straight on, ect.Their mix of blues, folks and hard rock made them one of the most easily recognizable bands in rock history. Great band, should be in no later than 2009.
renegade70 11/04/2006
Pioneers for women in rock music.
jmfay111 09/08/2006
Name a group with female personnel that rock harder than the Wilson sister? Bingo! Let them in!
coleslough 08/25/2006
and Nancy Wilson is still HOTT
TheAntiqueRock er 03/23/2006
You want to talk about some kick ass rockers? Nancy Wilson is the best female guitarist on the planet. Ann Wilson has a voice second to none. Together they both kicked down the door to the Rock and Roll Boys club and served notice. The can play it all. Beautiful ballads (Dreamboat Annie, Dog & Butterfly); Hard driving rock and roll (Barracuda), the most amazing cover of Led Zeppelin's Rock & Roll; and everything in between. How the Pretenders got in before them is beyond me since Chrissy Hynes isn't in the same class as either of the Wilson Sisters. If it weren't for Heart, the Pretenders might not be.
Not_1 02/24/2006
Great band that was one of the first female hardrocking bands that attracted fans of hardrock, folk and pop, all at once.
COURTTVROCKS 02/21/2006
ANN WILSON IS THE BEST PERIOD.. THE VOICE OF A GODDESS,,,,, LOVE YOU ANN~!!!
abacab 01/16/2006
Like a lot of bands, Heart dragged down their reputation with some subpar releases late in their career, which caused a lot of people to forget their earlier work. But if the voters for the RRHall were true music historians, they'd be able to look past that and realize Heart's considerable influence on female singers and guitarists. Was Blondie that much better than Heart?
Habs10 11/29/2005
I like heart, and am a fan of Maple Rock, but I gotta tell it like it is. No room for these gals until they let Purple in.
Djahuti 11/28/2005
Two ladies that can really rock. The singer has a great voice. Not something I'd want in my own collection-but they certainly deserve to be in the RnR.Hall of Fame.
Gianthogweed 10/19/2005
These guys (and gals) rocked in their heydey. Consistently good too. Sure, let em in.
kinston_eagle 09/27/2005
Went south quickly in the mid-eighties.
murph82 09/26/2005
Come on guys, just what has Little Richard done for Rock and Roll? HEART deserves its share. Just because they are women they don't get in..Give me a break.
FuzzyJ 09/23/2005
Along with Fleetwood Mac, this was the top female-driven band of the late 70's and early to mid-80's. Definitely a major influence in the rock world!
edt4 08/23/2005
I enjoyed Heart...even went to see them in concert once in Passaic, NJ, way back in 1979 or 80. But Hall of Fame material? Not if entry into the Hall of Fame is to have any sort of substantial meaning or relevance. Look, Heart wrote some catchy, enjoyable pop songs, but there was precious little about them that was original or inspired or innovative. Basically, they were females channeling Led Zeppelin, who had spent their entire career channeling Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, etc.
Emack 08/20/2005
Totally Awesome.
Frank V. 08/15/2005
Amazing, talented musicians.
ActivityGrrrl 08/13/2005
Since day one, Nancy and Anne Wilson have been TRUE pioneers for women in Rock and for the NW scene. As a female NW rocker, I am forever in their debt. Their music has helped to shape Rock-n-Roll for a generation, and they are very deserving of a spot in the RnRHOF!
kingguiness 07/13/2005
Decent music but not overwhelming. Nah!
deves 05/18/2005
Women with balls, sometimes high standard AOR, like it.
