Little Feat

Though they had all the trappings of a Southern-fried blues band, Little Feat were hardly conventional. ...

This funky, Southern infused jam band is generally overlooked, but they are truly one of the most interesting groups of their time. Little Feat isn’t a household name, but they’ve built up a loyal fanbase and enough acknowledgment to earn at least a nomination by now.

Like bands such as Love and Big Star, these guys were not as well-known as some of the heavyweights put like Little Feats chances

How many artists on this list have melded multiple styles that resulted in unique music and critical acclaim? Quite a few of course, though if we had to subject one on this list that may have combined the most styles, Little Feat could be that candidate.

How many artists on this list have melded multiple styles that resulted in unique music and critical acclaim? Quite a few of course, though if we had to subject one on this list that may have combined the most styles, Little Feat could be that candidate. Creating music that borrowed from Country, Folk, Blues, Rock, Funk and Jazz, it may have been excused if Little Feat may have had an unpolished sound. The fact is they didn’t, and a Little Feat album was among the most professionally produced of its era. There was little weakness with this accomplished group of musicians who as a collective could perform almost any style. They were able to crack into radio airplay somewhat but those who heard only their radio friendly songs, did not get the full breadth of what this group could do. They have massive respect within the musical community, and an induction, though unlikely is not impossible.

Another criminally under-championed band, Little Feat, is a deserving act that will probably never be welcomed into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And that is a major shame. The group took the sounds coming from southern rock and embellished them with a variety of styles. Little Feat was all about the music and not the popularity, which, unfortunately may be just the thing keeping them out of the Hall of Fame. Countless acts, many of them were even their peers, consider the band’s work to be incredibly influential to their own. Little Feat is an example of a great band with the musical credibility to be deserving of induction. They’re just GOOD, but unfortunately that’s not enough in the eyes of the Rock Hall, and they’re probably going to be on the “snub” list forever.

From his debut as a 16 year old in 1985, LL Cool J became hip-hop's biggest solo star over the next decade, pushing the style firmly into the mainstream at a time when it was still in danger of being dismissed as a fad. Groundbreaking, technically skilled and rap's first sex symbol, he brought romance into what had been the ultimate party music with his crossover hit "I Need Love" in 1987 and by the early 90's he maintained his status in an era of gangsta rap with his most acclaimed album ever, "Mama Said Knock You Out", offering a straightforward style that proved artists didn't have to jump on the latest trends to maintain an audience. Above all else he established long-term viability for rappers, with 9 Top Ten albums stretching over two decades of releases, and later branched out successfully into acting, making him one of rock's most bankable commodities in its most tumultuous subgenre.

A Rock and Roll Hall of Fame needs a quality band in Little Feat that made a difference and were not formulamatic.

Pretty bizarre that Lowell and the boys have not been under consideration. Their brand of downhome rock with percussive country roots stands the test. They were originals and ernest and creatively successful, if not overly commmercial world heaters. If they wanted my vote, I'd be Willin'

I'm not very familiar with Little Feat but I do think a wider range of sounds should be included in the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. Maybe even these guys! Has anyone ever been to the Rock Hall? I work for Positively Cleveland, and we're getting the word out about the Rock Hall. I highly encourage all music fans to check it out. You can start on our website: http://www.positivelycleveland.com/visiting/things_ to_do/cleveland_rocks/rock_hall. There are a lot of awesome upcoming events so it's totally worth looking into! Cleveland also has some other great destinations, such as the Football Hall of Fame and a world-class art museum. Lots to explore! Hope I haven't overstepped my bounds by leaving this comment; just working to let people know about what Cleveland has to offer! If you have any questions or concerns feel free to Email me :) Cary A. They'd be in my Hall Of Fame, but I don't think they have much chance. They should be in for their deverse musical styles and their reputation as one of the best live bands ever.

I played in Lynyrd Skynyrd and Feat opened for us at several shows in the early '70s. We'd come out and watch their whole set and wonder 'Why are these guys opening for US?!' They were SO ahead of their time that time never caught up. With Lowell George, an unbelievably soulful & complex rock and roll band. Their rhythm section, ohmiGOD. If Percy Sledge can get in,....??

Lowell George's voice sends chills up my spine...Ronnie van Zant's rival during his short life...Most underappreciated southern rock band ever...If hits like 'Fat Man in the Bathtub', 'Oh Atlanta', 'Dixie Chicken' and so on got more radio time they would be much more mainstream...The ultimate jam band along with the Grateful Dead
