War 5

They should have been inducted into the Hall of Fame during the 80's - absolutely the 90's.

What P.O.'s me is the cover band with the real group's name is gonna be at a neighborhood festival in Philly during June - I refuse to listen to them, I got fooled during the late 90's before I understood all the legal crap. This really ticks me off, cause I can listen to a few YouTube videos of the the Lowriders Band and it just takes you there - you know THIS is what War should sound like - THIS is the band that should be touring - not that weak a__ cover band.

I know there's legal issues but it seems to me since the Hall of Fame inducted the original Temptations and Dennis Edwards then why wouldn't the same apply with the orginal members of War?

War 5

Hell 2 The Yes, But only if the WAR is inducted with the 5 surviving members. Harold Ray Brown, Howard E. Scott, Morris "BB" Dickerson, Lee Oskar (Oskar Levetin Hansen), (Leroy) Lonnie Jordan. Papa Dee Allen and Charles Miller should be represented by a family member and should be replaced by a vote by the surviving members. It would be a travesty if WAR was inducted into The Rock "N" Roll Hall of Fame with the touring, tribute band. WAR is and always will be Allen, Brown, Dickerson, Oskar, Miller, Jordan, and Scott. Jerry Goldscheem is not and he will never be a musician. I just don't understand the music business. They say Prince was crazy when he wrote "SLAVE" on his face but I don't. I think he was being honestr and he tried to let people know about the business. Musicians are ripped off everyday and that has been happening fro a very long time. Let's hope that someday it changes.

War 5

If Lonnie Jordan of WAR and Jerry Goldigger don't give up their greed in keeping the name WAR to themselves, I'm sorry to say we TRUE fans of their music will never see them in the R&RHOF. They are unfortunately diluting the sound of what was once the WAR sound at their concerts. For the REAL DEAL and the "Heartbeat" of WAR (the name) you have to check out www.LowriderBand.com, and in concert if you get the opportunity.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Lonnie's voice and I really miss hearing him with the OG's, but sadly it looks as it may never be, unless Lonnie has a change of heart and leaves the WAR name to Mr. Goldigger and joins up with our Lowrider Band as part of the Lowrider Band so we diehard fans and new fans can have a taste of what the WAR sound should truly be and used to be.
Lonnie should take some of his own song advice and utilize "Why Can't We Be Friends" and really make it mean something.
Although I said that we may never see them in the R&RHOF, that definitely does not mean that I don't want them there. They should have been one of the first Inductees. They have been part of our American culture as long as I can remember, and have influenced countless musicians, artists and plain ole simple folk like me. Delivering the word. Peace.

WHAT CAN YOU SAY ABOUT THE PEOPLES BAND.WAR IS NO LONGER THE PEOPLES BAND.WAR IS A JOKE.EVEN THOU THEY HAVE TALENTED REPLACEMENT IT DOES NOT MAKE THEM WAR.THE CLOSEST THING TO THE REAL WAR IS THE LOWRIDER BAND(LEE OSKAR,HAROLD BROWN,B.B. DICKERSON AND THE AMAZING/CHARASMATIC HOWARD SCOTT)IT'S ASHAME WHEN YOU HEAR A COMMERCIAL FOR A WAR CONCERT IT IS RARE WHEN YOU HEAR A SONG FEATURING LONNIE JORDON AS A SINGER.IT'S ALWAYS THE SONGS WITH HOWARDS VOICE LIKE CISCO KID,ME AND BABY BROTHER OR SLIPPIN INTO DARKNESS.COMSUMER LET THE RECORD COMPANY KNOW AT WARTHEBAND.COM THAT WE ARE FED UP OF THE COVER BAND THAT THEY PUT FOR US TO SEE.TELL THEM TO REUNITE AND PAY THE ORIGINAL MEMBERS SO WE CAN GET OUR MONEY WORTH.I WAS BLESS TO SEE THE ORIGINAL WAR PERFORM AND I'M ALSO BLESS TO SEE THE LOWRIDER BAND PERFORM.THEY ARE AWESOME.GOT TO SEE LONNIES WAR BAND.THEY WE'RE GOOD BY THEY HAD NO SOUL OR SPIRIT.YOU NEED A SPECIAL FUNK TO PLAY WAR MUSIC AND THE LOWRIDER BAND GOT IT.LONG LIVE THE LOWRIDER BAND.A BATTLE OF THE BANDS WOULD BE NICE.AND LET THE FANS DECIDE WHO THEY WOULD WANT TO GO SEE.LET THE GAMES BEGAN.SEND YOU'RE MESSAGE TO WARTHEBAND.COM OR CALL AVENUE RECORDS IN LOS ANGELES CALIFORNIA AND TELL GOLDSTEIN THAT THE REAL WAR FANS ARE TIRES OF HIS CRAP.GIVE THE PEOPLE THE BAND BACK WHILE THERE ARE STILL 5 MEMBERS ALIVE TO GIVE US THAT GREAT MUSIC.SINCERLY JOE T.

War 5

One of the great live bands of all time should only be  inducted with the original members who are still alive. They have been robbed of their name but not their music and such an honor would offer some justice in the memory of Papa Dee Allen and Charles Miller.

War 1

War should only be included ONLY if the members of the Low Riders band are included.

How can anybody seriously consider this cover band "War" (with only one original memeber) to be the true band?

Well if MCA and Slime/Warner (who own the name) get their way, then the award will be a total irrelevant joke... Corporate greed usually wins out.

War 2

War should not be in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame due to the fact that four of the Original Members are a live and well. And because the courts ruled that the Record Company/Production Company owns the name. WaR was made up of Seven Writer/Musicians. The group that is out touring is made up of one original member. While the main writers of the songs that we have heard so often on T V, Radio and movies are left out of the market place to try and earn a living while others live off thier birthright. HB

War 4

Yes.  War had a distinctive sound.  They could be mellow without having to "ripen and rot." (Woody Allen from "Annie Hall"), they could be topical ("The World Is a Ghetto), and they could combine music with joy and fun ("Low Rider", "Cisco Kid", Why Can't We Be Friends?").  Mostly, they were simply great. ("Slippin' into Darkness").  I also think that "Spill the Wine" should be counted as one of theirs.  I declare War (should be in the HOF)!

I'm surprised to learn that they haven't yet been inducted. They took the urban smarts of Curtis Mayfield and slammed it up against the ramshackle funk of the Family Stone and made a slew of great records.

Put this marvelous band into the jann wenner hall of fame oh i mean Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.Their music is world music combining latin, reggae, soul pop, funk etc. Their name means a war on poverty, disease, violence etc. This band should have been in the hall of fame long ago.No one knows who the hell the stooges are but we sure know who war is.Put em in now. We can circulate a petition and E-Mail it to jann wenner himself.Mr  Expert.he's smart but he's allowed his own tastes and his so called critic friends to run the nominations.Hopefully they'll put the dave clark five in. I want war in and i want billy stewart in.

War 5

A great band from the seventies. Lee Oskar is very influencial harp player. The band had a great run of hits that bring back many memories for me.  I played in a band that had the experience of playing a music festival with them about 6-7 yrs ago in Akron, Ohio. Even though I was aware that they were not all the original members, I was however amazed at the number of original hits they played from days gone by. Wherever the ex band mates are.....great jobs guys! I hope someday you do get inducted in to the Hall of Fame. I think you deserve it.

War 5

In todays "music" world, where creativeness & talent are ignored & hype is the king, groups such as War, Earth,Wind,& Fire, and ConFunkShun, who played their own instruments,& wrote alot of their own music, are sorely missed. Music used to make you "feel good", and romance & love dominated over sex & promiscuity. I really feel sorry for my children, because they missed out on a music scene that was special. War's music is special, and they deserve a spot with the all-time greats!!

War 1

My name is Lee Oskar, an original founding member of the band war. It would be a honor for Harold Brown, Howard Scott, BB Dickerson, Lonnie Jordan and myself along with the memory of Papa Dee Allen and Charles Miller to be inducted into the Hall of Fame for all our accomplishments as the band War; the composers and the recording Artist who created many great hits including Low Rider, Cisco Kid, Why Can't We be Friends...and many more. However, my rating is one star, only becuase the band that is touring under the name War today, is a cover band with only one original member, Lonnie Jordan. My concern is: "if War was to be invited to be in the Hall of Fame would you invite the cover band or the Original War Members that wrote and performed all of War's greatist hits"?
