In July of 2003, George W. Bush said to reporters, "There are some that feel like if they attack us that we may decide to leave prematurely. They don't understand what they are talking about if that is the case. Let me finish. There are some who feel like the conditions are such that they can attack us there. My answer is, bring 'em on." As fascinating as the website Drum is humping probably is, going there is a waste of time. It's in every liberal newspaper across the country almost every day. The website will probably sprinkle in a little anti-war slogan or two, I suppose, for the three people in the country who haven't heard them all a zillion times, and a breathless update on the recent shenanigans of Cindy Sheehan, their proudest upside down flag carrier. A neat trick would be to find a website that keeps track of the military fatalities in Kosovo. Oh right, wrong Commander-in-Chief. What about recent terrorist fatalities in say, New York City? Oh, that's right, there haven't been any. I did not like this comment at the time, not because of its obvious bravado, even its invitation of violence against our troops. I didn't like it because blind-by-rage Bush-haters would inevitably use it to mock the president and with it, the war effort. They have not disappointed.

It is important to not show weakness when dealing with the enemy. The liberal attitude of appeasement does not work. The President understands that peace is accomplished through strength. I would argue that showing strength has discouraged the enemy rather then encouraged them. There is no proof that his comments have caused more American deaths. We have an all volunteer military. These hero's believe in the validity of the war they are fighting

My gosh! This wasn't a gaffe at all. I suspect there are a lot of naive Americans that need things whitewashed for consumption. We are there to kill as many "potential" terrorist as possible. Breeding terrorism? I hope so. We want as many potential terrorist to come out of the woodwork so we can burry them in their own country. We're not exactly turning schoolgirls into terrorist any more than a stolen goods sting operation creates more thieves. America's imperialism is by invitation only. You screw with us, that means you have invited us to occupy your territory. I'm almost certain that Syria and Iran has extended their invitation. Ain't there any history books in school anymore?

Much easier said when it's other people's kids fighting instead of your own family on the line. Remember, our mission in Iraq was to promote lasting stability in the region by getting rid of a ruthless dictator. Our mission is not to dare potential insurgents to wage war against Americans involved in the rebuilding efforts. In some ways, his statement contrasted with the goals of our military operations.

Another gaffe by George W? Gee, do you think he could really be as dumb as he seems? How many lost American lives do you think this belligerent comment might have been responsible for? Support Our Troops indeed!

Bush likes to talk tough but he wormed his way out of ever seeing action, then sent other people off to die with inadequate equipment. What happened to the good old days when the leader rode in FRONT of his troops?

Judging from the mounting death toll in Iraq, it looks like they were listening.

I would say, be careful what you wish for! Bush was taunting adversaries in a life and death struggle. They brought them, alright, and our fine troops have paid an immeasurable price. So has our country. This is no trifling matter.

I wouldn't consider this a gaffe. Instead the President was using a WWF-style catchphrase rather than explaining the severity of the Iraqi situation. Democrats need to pick their spots better; making hay over bring them on makes them look weak to swing voters.

Exactly the kind of response you'd expect from someone whose only military experience was running away. What an arrogant, disgusting hypocrite.

why are people always whinning about soldiers being killed. They are soldiers trained for combat. They very well know they could lose their lives, it's their job. War is alot better than it was before 1000's died. Stop whinning and pray for and support the soldiers send them a letter or a love gift. I do have a beef with our soldiers fighting an dying over there but us not insisting that they become a democracy and letting them impliment the same kind of government that got them where they were before.

It is easy to say bring it on from the safety of D.C. The people who have a right to say bring it on are the soldiers who are in the bunkers, towers,DFP's,foxholes, or any other place where they can look out and see the enemy or be seen by the enemy. Where your arse is on the line then you can say bring it on. Making a statement like bring it on when you are the president of the U.S.A. is irresponsible, but so is landing on an AirCraft Carrier and declaring and end to nothing and so is traveling to Iraq for a thanksgiving dinner with the troops...i would comment on those but i'll save that for the proper topic.

That about sums up the level of abstract thought behind his foreign policy that will set back our international relationships for years.

This one has to be considered more serious than all of the others on this list as it may have actually cost people their lives. I think I understand what GWB was trying to say here - that he has confidence in our armed forces, and he feels comfortable that they can and will take on all our comers. Unfortunately, this statement can also be construed as a reckless dare. I don't claim to know enough about the mindset of the Iraqi resistance to say that they would be so macho / irrational to act upon a brash politician's dare. If i had to bet, I'd say that Bush's words made no difference in the Iraqi guerilla war effort - that not one additional American died because of Bush's brashness. However, as there is a slim chance that some attack on US forces occurred due specifically to Bush's gaffe, that's enough to make bring them on an irresponsible and reckless statement in my eyes.

Sounded like he was running the mike at a wrestling event, promoting next week's Texas Cage Match between him and Osama.

The height of arrogance and stupidity. He didn't get enough heat on this one. His job as commander in chief is to make sure that our troops don't have to take so much fire unnecessarily. What? Does he want to provoke a guerrilla war in Iraq? What the President has to realize is that the Iraqi's consider us only a necessary evil. We had a very narrow timespan after the operations to secure the situation on the ground; the problem was that we weren't ready to do that. Our policy in Iraq has been done on an ad hoc basis between April 2003 to today. So now terrorism is a problem there. Bring it on huh? Yeah, they're going to bring it on. We're involved in the whole cycle of violence over there that isn't going to end anytime soon. Maybe a horrible dictator is gone now, but the chances of something even worse happening is very high now. Bush should stop the belligerence and level with the American people about the reality in Iraq. We're there for the long haul. We're not going to pull out anytime soon because to do otherwise will mean that the situation will spin out of control there. Sorry if I'm down on this, but that's the reality. Iraq's a highly fragmented society and only a strong authority can hold it together.
