W. had some unfinished family business to take of, so naturally, he invaded a country to take out this evil enemy of the Bush family. But really, Bush's main goal politically has been to avoid what he perceives as all the mistakes that his father made. His father raised taxes, the son has been a chronic tax cutter, the father was a practitioner of traditional realpolitik, the son is more of an idealist. He believes in the vision thing, something which his father lacked. He has made appeals to the fundamentalist Christian wing of the Republican party, something his father didn't like doing. Most of all, George W. wants to be re-elected to vindicate his families place in history. The capture of Saddam was merely unfinished business and an easy target to boot. Unfortunately however, the peace has been a little more difficult. That's why American foreign policy must be conducted according to American national interests, not the Bush's family interests.
