This is the crasy bully on the block here. This Pyongyang is just stupid enough to push a button. He scares me. I fear he will understand only one way like most bullies do. You tell him to stand down or else. Then when he moves a muscle you close his book! This guy is only going to comply when someone pays him or shuts him up permenantly.

We need to handle North Korea the same way Reagan handled the U.S.S.R. They need to see who they are dealing with. Their threats should not be tollerated!

In the case of North Korea, there must a sort of dual policy, an interplay between more open relations and diplomatic isolation. The big if for the past 51 years concerning Korea has been Chinese involvement or intervention on the side of North Korea in the case of war. The key to resolving this dillema is to play China against North Korea, thus breaking the alliance. This will isolate the country even further, thus making them come to the table. The bad part about this policy which we've actually been pursuing for the past 10-15 years is that their isolation will give them an incentive to develop their nuclear program. That's why in the final analysis, we have to deal with the North Koreans diplomatically in addition to using military cohersion when need be. Of course, we should probably begin to move our troops out of the DMZ. We shouldn't let them develop nuclear weapons and we should begin to help South Korea prepare for the eventual fall of the North, which is a far weaker state than the propagandists in Pyongyang would like us to believe. I believe that N. Korea is a lesser threat than many in the media let on, the average person in this country lives in dire poverty. Really it's a sad state of being.

I don't think there is much I could do in this situation. If we went to war with North Korea we'd most likely have to either deal with China or they would retaliate with nukes. I would watch them very closely and hope that eventually the communistic political structure of both countries self destruct like they did in the former U.S.S.R. and Vietnam.
