One of my favourite Characters in 'Harry Potter' (I can never narrow it down to fewer than 5!) Lupin always seemed a very 'real' Character to me. From book three he seemd quite a 'calming' force in the books- doesn't ever seem to become flustered, and is a fantastic mentor to Harry. As the books go on we see that little bit more of Who He Is: A guenuinely decent guy who cares about people but who can never quite accept himself. It's quite sad :( and we see it more and more in book seven when he is absolutely terrified by the thought that, as a werewolf, he now has a wife and child. He isn't perfect, but a very Human Character.

When first introduced to him, he seemed like a good character. He stood up to Peeves and Snape in book 3, taught Harry to conjure hope in the face of depression, and told good students he was proud of them. I loved him as a teacher! As the series progresses, however, I notice that he hardly writes to Harry, supposedly his friend's son. He also avoids troublesome or painful topics. Lupin hardly contacts Harry in all the subsequent books. He's depressed and wrapped up in his problems. In book 5, he nearly rejects Tonks, a perfectly decent girlfriend, then rejects her formally in book 7 for no reason at all. It almost seems like he doesn't want to stop feeling sorry for himself. Tonks was in love with him and he didn't appreciate it. In book 7, he dies a hero, but I hardly missed him at all.

I give him five stars. He really is a nice and polite character that struggles in life, and I think that is what people like about his character. He represents how people are discrimminated against and mistreated. He is also a very good teacher! And he's friends with Sirius Black. Like brothers that look nothing alike and have a different last name. That's a definite plus in my world. Nicknames for Remus Lupin include Moony, Moonykins, Remmykins, Remmy (the one that makes people cringe), and Remmilicious. Fans' imaginations are allowed to run wild because of his sadly minimal appearance in books 4, 5, and 6. JK Rowling may have made too many characters for her own good...They tend to overshadow him it seems.

My favorite character in the series. I hope there's a lot more of him in Book 7 (as much as there was in Prisoner of Azkaban would be great.)

Professor Remus John Lupin is a complete 5. He has a very kind heart and a great personality. Despite his Furry little problem. The Floo Network has a picture of Lupin at fifteen. Wow, for running around every full moon, transforming and all, he looks very good. Professor Lupin is the best thing that that Harry Potter could ever dream to have as a teacher and FRIEND.

Professor Remus John Lupin is great in Harry Potter, be it the book or the movie. David Thewlis is talented enough to capture the Lupin the J.K. Rowling would have liked. The added bonus of being a werewolf, well, just adds to it. Everyone I know says that I have a dark side. Ever since I have become obsessed with Lupin, he is my only reason for watching the Harry potter movie. Please don't make him die! Or get married to Nymphadora Tonks. A 36 year old marrying a 24 year old. Ich!

*singing* Go Lupin! Yay for Lupin. He is the best, the BEST character in the HP books. He saves Harry's life many times. Only I read a rumor that Wormtail might kill him. So what do I do? Naturally, I start a month rambling about why he SHOULDN'T die! Exactly like the three months after the third HP movie. They made Lupin very cliffhanger-friendly, which he isn't! He doesn't wait until the last moment for fighting off the dementors! *starts rambling*
ObsessedFreak 12/06/2004
Remus is a very good teacher. He never lets people down, and he has saved Harry's life in three different instances (Well, ok, one was the dementor on the train and the other were anti-dementor lessons. Can't they count?) He always believes in people, and fits in well in the Werewolves that don't want to be werewolves so they brood and end up looking alike group. Seriously! Look at pictures of Oz from Buffy or Wolf from the Tenth Kingdom if you don't beleive me!

his soooo great!!!! there isn;t enough space here to describle him *sigh*
AndrewRox 10/20/2004
Let's see....what is there that's wrong with him....NOTHING!!!! which makes him the kewlest character out of Harry Potter. Also what makes him extra special, is the fact that he's a werewolf....and werewolves are awesome!
Shadows 10/01/2004
Moony rocks, he's so mysterous, it's almost as if he knows all the secrets and details of Harry's past, and he probably does! But also he's got that sad and depressing side of him too, the pain of being an outsider for a major percentage of his life, it really creates a lot of the emotional background in the books.

Remus Lupin diservs a straigh 5. He is my favorite charachter and will always be no matter what may come his way. He lives a starange confusing life. He had 3 great friends. 2 died, 1 evil. He is a werewolf. But yet still a great person. You would think a person who all this has happened to would be diferent but no, he stands strong. He is Harry's father figure and one of mine. He is a terific teacher, friend, and member of the OotP. I just hope he has bigger parts in the remaining books and movies.

Definitely my favourite defense against the dark arts teacher, forever and for always. He has so many connections with other characters making things very interesting! I badly want to learn more about him. I totally agree that he should be more involved in the 5th book. In the third movie, so many scenes were of Prof. Lupin and Harry chatting (and I totally adored those scenes, in fact I loved them so much I went to go see the movie a second time.) He is very much a father figure to Harry and he should be more involved! I haven't read any of the books and I've never really been a fan either, because of professor Lupin, I love Harry Potter now, or maybe I just love Remus, I really don't know. His relationship to Harry and Hermione remind me of the relationship between me and one of my past teachers. Hermione knew about his secret (being a werewolf) and didn't tell anyone, not even Harry and Ron. She had faith in him and knew that he didn't want to hurt anyone. The little chat between teacher and student, loved it. Totally reminded me of my teacher. He's sweet and kind. NOT a pushover, taught the students more than Prof. Quirell and Prof. Lockhart put together. He doesn't get angry at students when the mess up or if they can't perform a spell properly like Prof. Snape for example, instead he tries to build their confidence and ensures them that no one is perfect and that as long as they try their best, that's good enough! What an amazing teacher, love him, love him, love him, and love him. I admit, being a member of the Order of the Phoenix is a suitible job for him, but he was born to teach! Tina Wong/Canada

Remus has a complex, three-dimensional character; he has been the solid father figure for Harry. He's firm when he needs to be and could make a bitter enemy, which adds even more spice to his personality. It is a shame that J.K. Rowling let his unique, lovable character slip through her fingers in the 5th book; Remus Lupin was merely a shadow of his true personality, hardly involved in the book at all, when two years ago he had been one of the most important figures in Harry's life. It's sad that the fans know Remus Lupin's character better than the woman who created him. Hopefully, her muse will return.

I agree that Remus Lupin was the best Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher that Hogwarts ever had. If it hadn't been for him, Harry would have never known how to create a Patronus or how to get rid of a boggart. He was so old beyond his years, so exhausted, I just wanted to give him a hug. I don't care if he was a werewolf -- he was an awesome character.

the best teacher hogwarts ever had

My favorite character in the books thus far. He reminds me of a former teacher of mine.
Lothlorien 08/07/2003
Remus is one of my other fave characters in HP. From the first, he's a marvellous character, being the only DADA teacher who actually knew his stuff, and his being a werewolf only added to his allure. He's always kind, and his connections with Sirius, James, Peter and Severus make the book much more interesting. It's a pity he couldn't be kept at Hogwarts, but in Book 4, even though he doesn't appear that often, he's awesome when he does, being a member of the Order of the Phoenix really suits him!
