 | numbah16tdhaha (147) 01/08/2007 | Dogs pull off all kinds of stuff. They guide the blind, bust criminals, and are the original alarm system that man has used for thousands of years. That's just their utility side, though, as they are valued companions that can bring a smile to your face.

 | mat5897 (0) 01/08/2007 | Dogs can find people that run away or get lost. They can help people that are blind. They can smell out drugs. They bark when strangers come by the house. Dogs can be a good friend. Dogs can cheer up people in hospitals and nursing homes. Dogs can help farmers to herd cattle or sheep. Dogs can keep unwanted animals away from farms..such as the fox or coyote. We second graders believe that dogs are the most important and helpful animal of all.

 | JonTheMan (27) 07/20/2005 | Guide dogs can extraordinarily improve the lives of the blind and provide much needed companionship to the lonely. Whilst my cat wants to kill me, my dog just wants to obey my commands (and hopefully get some food out of it). Dogs are man's best friend.

 | souljunkie (20) 06/30/2005 | Dogs came to my mind immediately as the most helpul. I have been a dog lover all my life. Seeing Eye dogs, Law enforcement, rescue and so many other things they can be taught to do because of their inherent connection to us. Not like Cats (for sure) or any other animals that I know of. They really seem like the beast that was born with a make-up for being with us. True love without condition. They have givem me quality of life for as long as I can remember. I have two beautiful Cocker Spaniels who I look forward to seeing almost as much as any other family member. Dogs rule!

 | Mr.Political (18) 06/30/2005 | Dogs serve mankind in multiple ways that we often take for granted. They help police officers in drug busts, tracking down missing persons, and bomb & corpse detection. Dogs are also famous for guiding the handicap and used by farmers to help herd live stock. Of course, dogs also serve as wonderful companions who bring happiness to many (including myself) with their simple yet often complex lives. Great pets and even better family members.

 | TJGypsy2 (7) 06/30/2005 | I've always liked the prayer that goes Lord, let me someday be the person that my dog already thinks I am. It pretty much says it all. Also, I've heard from a few people that pets don't go to heaven, as they don't have souls. All I can say to that is if my dog won't be there, I don't want to go.

 | Inmyopinion (10) 06/30/2005 | Seriously now, this needs to be above pigs!!! We eat pigs, that's about as helpfull as they are for us. I know some people have pigs for pets, and they can be loyal, but not like a dog. A dog is a man's (or woman's) best friend. They can be the eyes for blind people, the ears for deaf people, and the companion for emotionaly destraught people. Dogs should be 1st, not pigs!

 | texasyankee (21) 06/29/2005 | Depending on if they're trained properly, the dogs can be the most helpful in this age and society. They can help the blind, or help hunting or help protect the property and other animals on that property, as in sheep and chickens and stuff.

 | alpepper (21) 04/14/2005 | Scientific studies have proven that dogs have a genetic and instinctive predisposition to live symbiotically with H. sapiens. Though I had no fondness for dogs when I was young (only good for pissing, pooping, biting, and barking I would say), this has greatly changed now that I own a couple of pooches. I used to have one of my bosses come over my house for dinner now and then (he was a geographic bachelor). Initially I liked the guy but our Lhasa Apso would always growl at him. Sure enough, the boss turned on me and became an S.O.B. (the dog knew). Even more incredible was a girlfriend of mind -- a Jewish girl -- whose dog (she claimed) would bark and snarl at gentiles. While I was skeptical, the dog did come up and licked my hand (I'm not gentile). Though I didn't date her long, based on reports I received from a friend of hers, the girl's dog would have had the opportunity to attack a gentile just about every day (sometimes, even 3 gentiles at a time when her parents weren't home).

 | Sharose (0) 02/19/2005 | They are loyal and good natured, and make great pets. And look at all the jobs they have: herding dogs, guard dogs, seeing eye dogs, police dogs, etc. They help people in so many ways...

 | Seraph (8) 12/03/2004 | Loyal, affection animals who love people. When I'm off on my own I'll probably be living alone for a while, so I'll go and get a Great Pyrenees or some other big, guard-type dog (and a pistol for good measure). I took one star away, because they're gratingly difficult to potty-train.

 | Lucy_Jay (0) 05/03/2004 | Playful, loving animals. Statistics say that if you own a dog your life span can increase up to 5 yrs, due to less stress, however they can make a lot of mess and be loud and un-nessesaryly violent!

 | ClassicTVFan47 (36) 02/07/2004 | Loyal to their masters and excellent security officers, they also provide company to the lonely, lower blood pressure and provide a playmate when the other kids can't come over to play.

 | CastleBee (81) 02/03/2004 | There is no other animal quite like the dog. I consider myself fortunate to have fallen head over heels for dogs since the beginning of my life. Over the years dogs have made me laugh, cry, have offered protection, friendship, and have basically been the source of un-ending joy in my life. These dogs not only included my own pets, but also those of neighbors, friends and strays. As a child, dogs were always fun to hang out with even when human friends were not. No other animal has ever or will ever have quite the same relationship to humans as dogs few others would so consistently forgive, seek to please, or continue to love us regardless of our mood or actions. The longer I live and the more dogs I know, the more I see a divine hand in not only the existence of such a wonderful animal but also our long relationship with them.

 | magellan (153) 01/29/2004 | It's kind of scary to think about - there really aren't too many allies of man, other than dogs. What other animal truely enjoy man's company? Cats? No way, they just tolerate us. It makes me think that if there were an animal revolution, just about every animal on the planet would join in. Here is an example of a cow revolution: http://www.shagrat.net/Html/cows.htm

 | kamylienne (77) 01/28/2004 | I'm more of a cat person, but I have to admit dogs make better companions. A dog will most likely be unfailingly loyal; cats tend to kind of look at you as if to say What's in it for me?

 | irishgit (138) 01/28/2004 | This is an interesting symbiotic relationship that has developed over the centuries. I have had several dogs over the years, and have found them a great companion. It is hard not to like a creature who loves you so unreservedly.
