I like cats. The most resistant of any animal to domestic change and that is interesting. All breeds of dogs came from a wolf. Look at the differences there! Cats are probably the closest to the wild of any domestic animal, and probably the closest to the natural state. I have watched the big cats in the zoo for long periods of time and I can see tabby lurking inside the bid ones!

I love my cat, but the only thing he is helpful with is make the apartment a mess.

I have always thought that all the Big Cats are very interesting, but I could do completely without domesticated Cats. I really cannot think of one useful thing they do that I could not do myself. (Killing rodents is mentioned here alot, poison and traps perform much better). They dont need us at all either. They are over populating themselves with no help from us. I will never have one in my house. Dont care for their disposition, the hair or the smells that go along with them. And I sure dont need them for company/comfort because they do not provide that.

I have had cats as pets all of my life. They made me learn that their is no such thing as a well behaved pet. Cat or Dog they have bad habits and problems just like humans. If they have problems, we have to find the cause and the solution to that problem. Just like kids. Think about it. I am advising people not to get pissed off when your cat soils your precious rug. Stop and think. Is my litterbox clean? Do i have enough litterboxes? Did i switch cat litter brands? Did i bring home another cat causing my current cat to urine mark? Does my cat have health problems? If humans cant think, they should blame themselves for their cats problems. I dont think inmyopinion has much experience in pet ownership. Cats dont smell, and i seen them be great with kids.

Good for nothing. If there is one animal that we should have eaten instead of domesticate. Cats are lazy, they poop and pee in your house, and they smell bad. They scratch, and aren't good with kids.

Cats are helpful but much more difficult to train than say a dog or a horse, so I rate it at a 3 because they simply do what comes naturally! They MAY catch mice and other rodents, which helps with the garden and house and also the barn, if someone has one!

Cats aren`t really as much help to us as a dog is, but they don`t have to be. They can make us happy by just lying in our lap and purr. What could be nicer than to have a soft, cuddly engine on your lap? Frolicking kittens are one of my greatest pleasures.

A lot of people prefer dogs to cats because dogs are naturally drawn to people, whereas cats need some work getting to like you. It reminds me of Robert DeNiro in Meet the Parents where he says, Cats make you work for your affection. They don't sell out like dogs do. In other words, between the two, I'd rather HAVE a dog, but I'd rather BE a cat.

The soft cuddle of a good cat makes for a purr-fect companion. Most kitties have a sweet, quiet nature and are easy to care for. Something about petting a fluffy animal who needs you is very nourishing to the soul.

Cats are the most amazing creatures! They will love you unselfishly, provide compassion when you need it and generally always be there. If you take time to watch them you can learn some suprising things - how many cat owners have seen their cat run after something that only the cat can see? They are complex beings and a bit otherworldly.

Cats are mans very own allie! they reduce blood presure, they are loving caring animals and do not need to much attention, however, they do leave a trail of hair wherever they go! Still, an affordable, great, loving animal! Not too playful though!

Typically cute. Also, their awesome purring is extremely relaxing and has been proven to lower blood pressure. Also are good companions, even if not as playful as dogs.

The people in the various urban areas during the great plague of 1665 made a big mistake when they chose to kill off all the cats (because it was supposedly them carrying the plague) when they were the ones busily trying to kill the rats. Indeed, they're pretty nice to have around too.

Compared to dogs, cats are often like the calmer, quieter and often less noticed child. Relating to them can be somewhat complicated as they sometimes appear to be more aloof and less concerned with their humans. However, if you study them and come to know their feline ways, you will find that they really do care. I had my last cat Megan for 19 years and during that long span of time we became very close. Among other things, she did her level best to provide the entire family with a diet high in protein by constantly bringing us all the birds and rodents we could eat. Well, never mind that we usually responded with gasps and gags followed by mad dashes for paper towels and garbage bags - we still knew she was sincere in her effort to provide for us. My sister told me a story of another cat we had back when we were both still in high school. She was feeling really down one day and was lying down in her room when George, our large gorgeous white Tom cat, walked in, jumped up on the bed and sat down on her lap. When he noticed she was crying he reached out one soft fluffy paw and gently touched her face. Yes, they love us; they just dont make a big production out of it. Sometimes that's just what you need.

It's been said that you can't own a cat--the cat owns you. That seems to be mostly true from my experience. Some cats don't care much to be friends; from their point of view, the relationship seems to be You feed us, and we'll grace you with our presence, and you should be thankful for it. Though there are a few exceptions, cats are pretty selfish, but nice pets.

Pleasant company, but also serviceable in getting rid of rats. In previous ages (and third world countries) that's a pretty big deal. (See Rat on Magellan's Dangerous Animals list.)
