The Bills offense is an unquestioned juggernaut of the NFL and playoffs. They have scored 95 points in 2 playoff games against Marinos Dolphins and the Marcus Allen/Tim Brown lead Raiders. Bill Parcells knows he can not win a shoot out. He and little known Defensive Coordinator Bill Belicheck devise a scheme of keep away that limits the Buffalo Offense to 19:00 minutes of possession. The Bills still manage to score a point per minute they control the ball, and Thurman Thomas rushes for over 120 yards but they can not run a ball control offense. Jeff Hostetler, backup QB for the Giants, and RB Otis Anderson run the offensive scheme to perfection. The Giant D bends but does not break. The Giants run A SINGLE DRIVE that lasts almost the entire 3rd quarter, a backbreaking play on thrid and long by FB Maurice Carthon continues the drive. A near 15 minute drive scores 3 points. Buffalo gets one last drive in the 4th down by a point. Thomas is unstoppable and the Bills choose to run over 1/2 the time though time is ticking out. Norwood good from 40 yards in is asked to kick one from 42-43 yards with only second remaining. It misses by inches. Bill Belicheck would later use the very same game plan to win Superbowl XXXVI when his New England Patriots, also lead by a backup QB Tom Brady faces off against 'The Greatest Show On Turf' and wins, only this time when Vinateri is good for the winning field goal.
