I have always enjoyed watching Joan Fontaine in her many roles. She could play any type of woman and do it convincingly. She was sweet and demure, evil, conniving and bitchy, kind and romantic in her films. I enjoy watching her ever-changing facial expressions and her eyes as they tell as much about the story as do the words. Though best known for Rebecca, Suspicion, Letter from An Unknown Woman and Jane Eyre, she made many, many fine films which unfortunately are hard to find on video or dvd.

I think Joan Fontaine is one of the most talented actresses of all time. She was versatile in the type of roles she played and was convincing in every one of them. Her performances in SUSPICION, IVY, REBECCA, LETTER FROM AN UNKNOWN WOMAN, JANE EYRE, and LETTER FROM AN UNKNOWN WOMAN are all terrific.

I never saw this actress give a bad performance even though some of her films were not the greatest. Her facial expressions told more than the dialogue ever could. I give her 5 stars.

Her acting seems so natural. I have thoroughly enjoyed her dramas, comedies, and film noir movies so much. Her acting is never hammy. I prefer her style much more than the more bombastic style.

ALL HER PERFORMANCES WERE TERRIFIC, EXCEPT IN THE TELEPHONE SCENE IN THE WOMEN, I BLAME THE DIRECTOR FOR THAT OVERACTED AND HAMY SCENE, BUT IN ALL OTHER PERFORMANCES I GIVE HER 5 STARS

One of the finest actresses of the classic era. She could play any type of role and it never appeared as though she was acting...she became the character she was portraying. I give her 5 stars for her magnificent performances in Rebecca, Suspicion, This Above All, Jane Eyre, Ivy, Kiss the Blood off My Hands, September Affair, Born to be Bad, The Affairs of Susan, and Frenchman's Creek and The Devil's Own.

On the basis of her awesome performances in Rebecca, Suspicion, Ivy, Letter from an Unknown Woman,Jane Eyre and This Above All and her versatility is playing many types of roles, I give Joan 5 stars. She has such an expressive face and her acting never was forced or over-the-top.

A classy, versatile actress whom I have enjoyed in REBECCA, SUSPICION, LETTER FROM AN UNKNOWN WOMAN, IVY, THIS ABOVE ALL, THE WOMEN, SEPTEMBER AFFAIR, THE AFFAIRS OF SUSAN and many more. She could play a sweet, timid, shy character as easily and as convincingly as she played a bad girl, a princess, or a wronged-wife.

A truly fine, fine actress who played timid and shy characters (JANE EYRE, REBECCA), an evil murderess in IVY, her portrayal of a sexy WAAF in THIS ABOVE ALL is terrific, a temptress in BORN TO BE BAD is awesome, and her lively performances in FRENCHMAN'S CREEK and FROM THIS DAY FORWARD are great. Her crowning achievements, in my opinion, were in REBECCA and the marvelous LETTER FROM AN UNKNOWN WOMAN. I could mention many other roles in which she was absolutely enchanting but will stop here. She is one of the greats of the Golden Age of film.

I adore this versatile actress who has given so many memorable performances such as those in REBECCA,SUSPICION a great character study in IVY, a wonderfully comedic performance in THE AFFAIRS OF SUSAN. She was sexy and awesome in BORN TO BE BAD, regal in IVANHOE, a temptress in SERENADE. Her very best performance in my opinion is in LETTER FROM AN UNKNOWN WOMAN. I think she is highly underrated as an actress.

This living legend was a magnificent actress who could portray the shy, demure woman (REBECCA, SUSPICION) as easily and as convincingly as the femme fatale as in IVY or SERENADE. Her acting is not flashy but subtle and incredibly fascinating to watch. She is one of the greats.

Love Joan Fontaine. A splendid actress who made many classic movies such as Rebecca, Suspicion,The Women, Jane Eyre, Letter from An Unknown Woman. Later in her career she was so convincing as a sophisicate and worldly-wise woman. She was also a mesmerizing stage actress.

This is one actress who is not given the credit she is due. I love her romantic portrayals especially, but she could portray evil and manupulative women with equal conviction. Her face is so expressive. She was also good in comedies. A great all-around actress.

Ms. Fontaine is one the the screens great actresses and beauties. Her heartwrenching portrayals in Rebecca, Letter from an Unknown Woman, Constant Nymph, Jane Eyre, and Suspicion are unforgettable. Though thought of as a dramatic actress, her comedic roles were so appealing and she had quite a flair for comedy, e.i. The Affairs of Susan, The Women, and You Gotta Stay Happy. Even Casanova's Big Night is more enjoyable because of her talents.

Joan Fontaine was not only a great actress but also a wonderful human being. I admire her for her charitable work and for her many varied interests outside of Hollywood. She was great in Rebecca, Suspicion, Letter from an Unknown Woman, This above All, and many others. I think she was one of the screen most natural beauties.

Joan Fontaine is a very versatile actress who always was convincing in her varied roles. From the young wife in "The Women" to the school teacher in "The Witches", she matured gracefully not only in her physical appearance but also in her acting abilities. Who can forget her wonderful portrayal of the Second Mrs. De Winter in "Rebecca", the suspicious wife in "Suspiction", the beautiful and caring WAAF in "This Above All." Her portrayal of Jane Eyre in the film of the same name touches one's deepest emotions. She was awesome in "Letter From An Unknown Woman" in which she portrayed first a girl of 15 in love with a musician, then grew into womanhood still carrying a torch for the man who did not remember her until after her death. Her comedy roles were few, but in the ones she did do, she showed a wonderful flair for comedic timing. Nobody could portray a woman in love like Joan Fontaine. Her roles as a evil or bad girl were equally entralling as in "Ivy" and "Born to be Bad" and later in "Serenade." Joan Fontaine was a fantastic actress who is too often overlooked when listing actress of great ability.
