Makes sense. If the candidate has a bad image, they'll surely take it out on you. Plus it doesn't look good on you as someone who is meant to be looking out for them.

Apperance is half the vote. If the voting public see the canidate looking like he doesn't care what he looks like, they will think that he doesn't care what the people think. Example: Televised debate between JFK and Nixon 1960.
