Another guy who packed up and left. While he was here he was funny and worth reading, even though he couldn't spell worth a damn.

UPDATE 2: Goodbye IJR, I'll miss you... UPDATE: I just noticed today that I had rated IJR at 4 STARS and he is definitely a 5 STAR Reviewer. I must say of all the people who mocks my Christian weblists regularly he is my favorite (LOL). Now I do not mean this in a bad or negative way because IJR is one of a kind! He is a very unique person who at least with me can disagree yet engage you in discussion where you find it very intriguing. I think IJR is a refreshing individual who although he says he does not believe in God displays traits maybe telling a different story. He has been kind to me and I appreciate the positive way he communicates via private messages. I consider him a good friend! ORIGINAL MESSAGE: Mr. Ignatius-J-Reilly, we have had some debates over religion and even though you were wrong (lol) this does not take away from your abilities as a reviewer. I enjoy a lot of your comments and think you are one of the better if not more consistent reviewers on RIA.
Randyman 09/20/2007
HUH?? IJR left the site? Somebody fill me in. I'm sorry to see him go. He definitely was a unique personality here on RIA. What caused this? Original Comment: Although I don't agree with everything IJR has to say. I do understand that he comes from a source of integrity and honesty. What more can you ask of anyone. He doesn't water down his statements in the hopes of meeting everyones approval. Definetly his own man. I have no doubt this is his true character. I have nothing but respect for him.

Last to learn about it and lament his decision. Always looked up the contributions from his page as one of a select few of favorites; so much in his comments proved him tolerant and willing to give a listen to contrary opinions. Should he ever come to reconsider, he may rest assured that a significant number among us will welcome his return. Regrets to 'numbah.'

A good poster, I enjoyed reading what he had to say. I liked how he referred to himself as "IJR" had a good sense of humor. I was bummed to see he left. He had been here for a long time. not sure why he left, it seemed so sudden. I just wish him well.

Just about the only thing I (being a Christian) didn't agree with Ignatius on was his views on atheism, and I never will, either. But I also know that he has a right to those opinions, as well as the right to express them. In my opinion, he provided great humor and fun to RIA (I got a kick out of his "third-person" schtick, which as many of you know, had become his trademark), and one always feels a big gap when one of the devout regulars are gone without explanation. I've been here almost five years, and have seen many people come and go, some of whom I've really come to like. SolenoidDH, PBeavr, and GoneAway (among several) are three of RIA's respected veterans (I don't care for the term "has-been") who have made some positive impressions on me in their own different ways, and I even got to exchange some messages with them. Now IJR has joined them in the ranks of reviewers who will be missed by many.

Although we did have differences of opinion on Christianity and religion in general, he did have some interesting reviews. And as far as helpfuls and unhelpfuls go, I'm not a very popular reviewer around here, and it shows by all the unhelpfuls that follow me around. But I could care less, and I'm going to continue to post. I truly hope the best for IJR.

I'm always disappointed - and even downhearted - to see one of the "regulars" leave RIA. Obviously the site benefits from new blood and new ideas but it's the reassuring presence of the old hands that give it character, in my opinion. Every family needs its clowns, its curmudgeons, its steady-and-dependable father (and mother) figures, and even its unruly upstart children. IJR filled a certain niche in the grand scheme of things at RIA that only he could occupy. I don't know why he left. Don't even have a clue. But I'm sorry he's gone.
numbah16tdhaha 09/20/2007
A worthy opponent. He has become a playful nemesis who can get a chuckle out of me and it seems that instigation is a favorite activity for the both of us. Being from Phoenix is also a plus because we get to bitch about the local sports scene, or lack thereof. UPDATE: IJR is without a doubt one of my favorites for his uncompromising positions and the fun we having slinging mud at each other and moaning about the Cards. UPDATE: Great, now I need a new nemesis.

I'm really sorry to hear he's leaving. I always found him to be intelligent and hilarious, refreshingly irreverent and unpredictable, penetratingly insightful and civil. I would hope he re-thinks his position on leaving the site, as it's a real loss.
lawrence 09/19/2007
I'm sorry to see IJR leave. He had invested a ton of time on this site sharing his opinions of just about everything, and because of that, many of us felt like we knew him.However. IJR left for his own reasons, and I think it's a bit too simplistic to chalk it up to vague allegations of cheating. I personally think he left because he felt that some of the site rules were a bit too restrictive for his tastes.RateItAll is one of the few sites on the web where you CAN leave when you want to. We all own our opinions on this site, and it was IJR's prerogative to leave. As hard as it is to lose a respected member of the site, this is the way it's going to play out every once in a while on a site where people own their opinions.

It looks as if we have lost another valuable asset here on RIA. When I first joined, IJR and I had a misunderstanding but he was courteous enough to correspond with me and I soon discovered the mistake was mine. From that point forward we had a mutual respect for each other. He is the only atheist who ever complimented me on my posts on Christianity which proved he was one of the few who intellectually understood another's point of view and was willing to acknowledge its validity even if he did not agree with it on a personal level. I was lucky enough to hear from him before he left and I understand his reasons for leaving. Anyone who has been here for any length of time knows there are cliques, mutual admiration societies and a certain amount of tolerated cheating going on. (Yes, I am a "helpful" whore but at least my girlfriend had a legitimate account) If you are the right person who kisses the right ass you can get away with ANYTHING on RIA and IJR had finally had enough. I am supremely pissed off we have lost not only one of the most amusing writers the site has ever had, but many of us have lost a friend who was a genuinely good human being. This is a black day for Rate It All and on behalf of Ignatius J Reilly, let me say to the cliques and cheaters and all the "right people" on the site, you can kiss my ass.
Loerke 08/13/2007
My favorite fellow atheist, and the best antidote against the occasional Confederacy of Dunces you'll find on RIA. Every now and then I don't understand his posts, but most of time IJR has me laughing. Check out his uproarious post on masturbation and you'll see why he's our resident King of Comedy. Keep it up, IJR.
LastMessenger3 03/20/2007
Last Messenger likes IJR. Last Messenger thinks IJR is funny, witty, and fun.
Victor83 03/20/2007
Love the reviews and comments of IJR. His 3rd person thing reminds me of Bob Dole, but I wonder if his real name is Vader.
doobiesNhof 03/20/2007
What can I say about him that hasn't already been said?
Vudija 03/21/2006
Certainly a one-of-a-kind reviewer. He has a unique way and style about him, which is evident in almost every post he has made while on the site. I find is sense of humor is also a unique trait of his, and enjoy reading most (if not all) of it. You also can't help but find the competition between numbah and IJR funny unto itself.
tigerwoman 02/21/2006
Seems to be extremely insecure about himself & I am not afaid to admit it unlike most raters on this website.
oscargamblesfr o 01/18/2006
This guy is always interesting and often hilarious. He and I often have very dissimilar opinions and outlooks, but he's always, at the very least, intriguing , knows a lot about sports, music, theology, and politics and often provides readers with a cogent, thoughtful, and deeply considered analysis behind the funny remarks. One of the more distinctive and original personas on RIA. Not a Bush fan, which is another plus.
kattwoman 09/10/2005
i loved reading his comments. they are bold and honest and he has a great sense of humor.
souljunkie 07/18/2005
Always fun to read. He and I think very much alike. He says just what is on his mind and does not worry about those who label him for his strong opinions. Keep it up guy.
GenghisTheHun 07/08/2005
Hang in there. We need counterpoint on some of the issues--in fact on many of the issues.
Redoedo 06/18/2005
His posts are always insightful, sensible and thoughtful. A decent writer with an exceptionally diverse range of interests and knowledge. Great sense of humor too.
texasyankee 05/18/2005
There was a time I was really concerned for this guy. Some of his posts, before I got used to his crazy sense of humor, seemed down right weird. I think this guy might be a genius. How else would you explain how he can come up with this weird stuff that makes total, absolute sense?? I am still worried over that Partridge Family CD, but I guess we all have our little quirks that make us different.
X Factor Z 04/19/2005
He has excellent taste in women.
jakemr33 04/03/2005
Even though he is the same age as my mother, he's fun to talk to and an awesome guy. And, I respect my elders!(ha ha jk) definitely fun to converse with and share views. He bags on me for being a Christian, but what he may not know is I didn't grow up in the church and I undoubtedly think for myself and have thoroughly studied both sides. He may deny it, but God is working on his heart and once he FULLY acknowledges what faith actually is, he'll make the leap, About a year ago, I told him I'd pray for him and I continually have.
Skizero 02/08/2005
limp and feeble-minded reviews that tend to be on the self-referential side, often times including little notes about gee, this is my 10th post, etc etc that really add nothing to the banal statements that tend to follow. sometimes this person is alright and correct and what they are reviewing, but it's hard to get at any depth. that is to say, this reviewer has no real opinion but exists on here solely to be pals with everyone and to pick fights w/other reviewers and to talk about themself. that's fine, i guess, but wouldn't setting up a site on Friendster or My Space be better suited for such self-flatulation where opinion cultivating is concered. just a thought. Keen name. Toole was a genius wtih words, something the posts of this reviewer should take into account. maybe go back and read your idol and try to articulate yourself with 1/10th of Toole's verve. but if not, that's cool, i understand. we all like to get our 2 cents in during the work-a-day.
LanceRoxas 02/08/2005
Though I disagree with him on various issue, I think his posts are informative- sometimes hysterical and more often than not helpful. Don't worry IJR we all know what's limp on poor Skizero- it would make you negative all the time too.
Seraph 01/20/2005
Absolutely hilarious. I'd also like to add that he has the best rapper name I've ever heard of. Not sure if he intended it to be that way, but when I think of Ignatius J. Reilly, that image immediately springs to mind.
Specialboothvi cJr. 12/22/2004
I find most of his comments pretty helpful and he is friendly.
Beelzebub 12/07/2004
I've only been here a short time, and most people want me to stick my head in an oven, but not IJR. He's been nice to me. Also, he know a lot about a lot of stuff. And he cares about the environment, recycling, and the shrinking polar ice caps. But seriously, consistently interesting reviews. I laugh, I cry, I buy the soundtrack.
MariusQelDroma 11/10/2004
Has mostly moments of brilliance with a little hatespeak threaded in. Easy on the 'tude when you write.
WarGamefan93 10/08/2004
Polite person, most of his reviews are good.
kamylienne 07/23/2004
Blunt and honest, but from what I've read, his posts seem always pretty respectful. Quirky sense of humor.
scarletfeather 03/20/2004
Seems like a bright and funny guy. His comments are generally quite amusing.
Enkidu 02/06/2004
I'm always happy when he's posted. Funny and unpredictable, and he has some great lists. I imagine he is a bit like his namesake.
ClassicTVFan47 02/06/2004
I wonder why he thinks that I need professional help!
magellan 02/06/2004
I don't necessarily agree with all (or even some) of his comments, but he's a decent writer, and his about me description is hilarious.
