 | irishgit (138) 05/30/2007 | This is a high stress job with long hours and a heavy workload.
This leads to frayed nerves and short tempers.
Add to that a whole pile of ego, some abrasive personalities, and razor like tongues.
Put it all together and it means you'll likely get insults thrown your way a dozen or so times a day.
Some in jest, some in stress relief, some in full-blown anxiety attack, and some deadly serious.
Learn to deal with it. There's no place or time for nursing hurt feelings. Get tough or go home.
In most cases, its nothing personal, its just business.

 | abichara (60) 02/26/2005 | Absolutely necessary. Politics is very human; when you get involved at any level you're going to see things that aren't very savory to say the least. People don't have the best intentions and you have to come at it from that perspective. In this game, the goal is to win. Political campaigns operate in a highly rarefied atmosphere, almost surreal at times. Conflict is a part of the political process--campaigns are ground zero in this regard. In politics you won't survive a second without growing a thick skin...or any field as a matter of fact.
