He succeeded his father Edgar, but was murdered, it is said, by irreligious opponents. We do know that he went to the castle of his stepmother and there was killed so that her ten year old child, Ethelred, could become king. Some say that the wicked stepmother did the deed herself. Call MikeHolly!

never heard of him and that means he must have been crap. Although as this is supposed to be English monarchs putting a dane in is unneccesary

He was considered a promising and pious young ruler but was violently murdered at age seventeen. His step-mother Elfrida and his half-brother Ethelred II the Unready are considered likely to have orchestrated his murder.
