 | Redoedo (41) 02/25/2004 | Queen Victoria was the most effective British monarch since Elizabeth, as she embraced political evolutions and advocated greater investment in education and health care. Under Victoria's reign, the British empire doubled in size, regaining its status as a dominant world power. On the domestic front, Victoria embraced and cooperated with the governmental reforms instituted prior to her reign. As a result, basic human rights were extended to all British citizens, and all citizens were represented in Parliament. Under Victoria, England grew both socially and economically. She encouraged investment in the arts, education, health care, industry and trade. Furthermore, Victoria's reign was one of peace, with Britain involved in no major conflicts. The fact that she was able to double the size of Britain's empire without war is astonishing, and is proof of Victoria's governing and diplomatic genius. Overall, Victoria was a highly effective and beloved monarchy who oversaw a period of great social and economic reform and prosperity.
